The fact that Congress felt compelled to spell out that the foreign born could be natural born tells me that they knew that they had to create a statute to cover it because the Constitution did not.

The fact that the law also included caveats would indicate that Congress felt that it had the right to specify exactly what it did and didn't mean.

That is the urban legend that has attached to our current Maximum Leader.]

Cruz made his actual birth certificate available (not an easily altered photocopy) and renounced his Canadian citizenship. So, since being called a "birther" is similar to being called a racist, Republicans are simply applying the Obama Rule to Cruz. Democrats should honor the Obama Rule when it comes to Cruz or potentially face a backlash from Hispanics.
The majority of Hispanics wont vote for Cruz. There's nothing in his agenda that would benefit that bloc of voters.

The lower paid will be lucky if Cruz doesn't cut the minimum wage

What markers have been hidden about his schooling? We know where he attended, I think that it is only his grades that he hasn't released.

What media vetting did you expect to see? Why were Fox News and all other conservative media outlets complicit in this lack of vetting?

I don't know why you would bother to attempt to respond to him seriously when he makes comments that are as absurd as that. He's just another dime-a-dozen internet nutter.

Yeah, but I thought it might be amusing to see what he would come up with to support those nonsensical accusations. I didn't bother with easily provably false ones. Surely he's not just parroting right-wing talking points that sound bad but are so vague that they are meaningless?

Somebody posted this in the Malaysia forum, and because it is so eerily relevant to what's going on in these elections, I thought it should be posted here.

This is a BBC documentary about the psychology of marketing and PR, and the history of how it's influenced the masses in consumerism and politics since before WWII, starting with Freud...

It's 4 hours long, and is frankly, a work of art.
It's heady, but it's a bit scary too, and says much about the US elections of today, although it was made over a decade ago.

It's important to watch the entire programme. The end will not have nearly the same impact without the benefit of the rest of it, so load it up on your android or whatever TV or on your iPad or whatever, using the YouTube app, and absorb an hour at a time and watch it over 4 evenings.

Great stuff, and perhaps it may reveal some shocking aspects of why you view things the way you do - whatever side you're on.

There has demonstrably been very little in President Obama's agenda to benefit "African Americans" either, but that didn't stop record African American voter turnouts and 96% of them voting in Obama's favour.

One of the Democrat's biggest challenges this year is going to be voter apathy in that demographic.

IMO this election will pretty much run along the lines of the last one. The east and west coast states will vote heavily in favour of the Democrats while the mid west states will go Republican

If you stick around here long enough you'll benefit from Leslie's insight into this topic. The entire election will (again) come down to just a few swing states and that's where the battle will be fought. Leslie explains it so much better than I can so I'll leave it to her.

Now that Trump is going after Cruz's birth issues, it's making more news here. Well the Canadian part of what Trump says anyhow....

As the reporter said, you know it's getting dirty when being born in Canada is a campaign issue, they were trying to make a joke....

Now who would Trump pick for VP if he makes it that far?

Just make sure your in line with whatever we have in power then, or you may not like it here either... Although the current guy seems okay, but too early to tell for sure. But no worse then the last guy, so it still is an improvement.

Just don't come to BC, despite the name BC Liberals, they are not affiliated with the Federal Liberals, and they are not liberal.

Not entirely. Some states, such as Virginia, NC, and Florida have substantial numbers of African-American voters, at least enough to make the overall result debatable if the A-A voters don't turn out in large enough numbers.
