Does anyone know how much it would take to set up a business on CE - i did ask but no one seemed to know - how much would a unit cost - do they rent them or do you buy them - how much to refurbish it - how many people would be interested in doing it - if we had a property on CE we would definatly be up for investing xxxxx

I'd be keen on putting something in. Don't have time to manage it.

My guess would be capital cost for fit out would make it unviable.

Oh and I'd want more not fewer places on CE so hands off the shop!

It has to start with how many people would be putting up how much cash. Then we can look at what could be done with he cash which could be accumulated. As a Co-Op we could look to set up something for us all to benefit from.

1000 x 50 = 50,000
500 x 100 = 50,000
250 x 200 = 50,000

50k could go a long way to our dream venue?

It would need somebody on CE or very local to be the Co-Op head who knows how to run a business. Get a lawyer involved (as a member) to make sure all is above board from an investment and business point if view.

Lets face it if we get involved we will make sure it keeps running by eating there, drinking there and bringing people to the place to make sure it works out.

I think the time is right and we are over on the 30th if anyone wants to meet to discuss? We need a leader on the ground to be able to progress things!

Well there they were a team of about 6 opening up the unit on the LH side of the shop down to about half height and then it stopped. WHAT'S GOING ON?

Sorry John, not what you are hoping for..... the huge winds we had blew down the wall....... they were repairing it or something like that

My apologies for jumping in on this discussion but I have to agree with Jon and his "dream", which one or two have also agreed with.

The BH came over for work 4 years ago, I came over permanantly 1 year ago. Since then we have been looking for somewhere to drop anchor and settle into retirement.
We have found several nice properties, but they are on urbanisations that are just full of houses (and empty plots). Facilities, even basic such as a loaf of bread, are provided by the "host" town/village 10mins drive away, no opportunity or infrastructure to enable a short walk to any form of shopping.

Perhaps that may be nice for those Spaniards (or Brits) who are working and can get their shopping on the way home. But surely all this is about community, no urb is totally built and occupied for 2nd homers who only come for the summer. Many want to live there all the year round.
But how can you when you have to travel to get your bread, have a drink, buy your normal food. And what happens if, like us, you start to see the general aches and pains of older age.

OK you say, move closer into town, buy a town house next to a bakers and a bar. But that isnt the answer. The urbs are, based on our experience so far, are soulless, people not talking to each other, no meeting place, a nameless committee having meetings no one knows about.

You need shop(s), bar(s), you need a community, something that will draw others in with other businesses - even if they are part time.

From my humble position totally out of all this I would suggest NOW IS THE TIME to start things moving, trying the start of some form of local facilities, before the summer hits and it just becomes a "pie in the sky" project.
There should be plenty of second hand equipment lying around in the area from businesses that have gone bust (does Spain have a second hand shopfitting market?)

All I can say is good luck to you all, if you want it go out and get it, not only you will reap the benefits.

kind regards

Too right ! Anybody thinking of making a move should do it now whilst "Jags" place is still in good condition - are fittings still in, furniture etc etc ?? It is a great looking building, really smart but will soon deteriorate.

Don't know what you think Mel but I'm (and a few others) are still holding out for a branch of M&S ;)

Someone should do a survey first to see how many residents are actually around. Many urbanisations on the CDS are completely dead in for 6 to 8 months of the year.
