Lived there most of ten years and here for more than six and without doubt there is a much bigger difference from here to the Canaries than from here to UK.

Serious question then... Why are you here and not there - is there a downside?

Only thing was the flights became much more expensive and difficult, where previously I could walk straight onto a half full plane just about anytime for peanuts.
Thought it was time to see something else, especially have the freedom to hop in a car and drive anywhere in Europe and also see the many different areas of Spain I'd heard so much about.
I've done much of that and really enjoyed it,but there are times more recently when I think about how I rarely ever needed more than shorts and a T-shirt in TF.even mid-winter.
Only other thing I would say about weather is to recommend TF. and the three other western isles as the others suffer much more from the prevailing Easterly breezes and accompanying sand and dust storms.
Oh and the westerly isles are much prettier anyway.

Spent two weeks on La Palma once - stunning.

Yes, just watching that on the news! It looks like all UK airports will be closed by midday today. There are already tremendous disruptions in Scotland already, just been interviewing some Brits trying to get back to Spain. Not a hope! They'd be better off staying here and enjoying the sun!

Can't see how this situation will help anyone though. Roads in the UK will be gridlocked, as holidaymakers stay at home instead of flying abroad, and B&Bs understandably (they've had some hard times) will hike their prices to take advantage. I'm just wondering how the airport taxi drivers are going to cope, with no business. I won't spare too much sympathy however, as I've just had to survive a year without work/money coming in. I'm more sympathetic to those trapped at airports with no way of getting home. If I had a bit more money and time (and a car) I'd think about making up some sarnies and fruit salad, and popping along to the departure lounge to distribute a few goodies.
