Are you ever going to answer the question.why has GiB awarded itself a quota if following your arguement it does not have the facilities to catch them.
Maybe you friend in government house can advise you. One thing this arguement has proved is that the defence On environmental grounds that Gibraltar uses for it actions is total hogwash. It is becoming no better than Spain.

Save me the effort of searching Fred, does it mention the tuna crisis precipitated by the Gibraltar Tuna quota?

Margallo pressures Spanish debating forum to withdraw Picardo invitation
Date: 23 January 2015 at 12:45
An invitation to the Chief Minister to address a prestigious forum in Madrid next month has been withdrawn following pressure by the Spanish Foreign Minister. Fabian Picardo was due to speak at the Nueva EconomÃa Fórum, that describes itself as an independent debating organisation, on the 3rd of February, but details of the talk have been removed from its website.
The Gibraltar Chronicle says there were indications on Wednesday night that José Manuel GarcÃa Margallo had personally intervened to stop the event, and a Gibraltar Government spokesman has confirmed the director of the Forum telephoned on Friday morning to cancel, citing the reason as "matters of state". As the Chronicle points out, the Spanish Prime Minister recently walked arm-in-arm with David Cameron in Paris supporting the right to free speech in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo shootings.
The decision to withdraw the invitation could also be interpreted as a snub to the UK, given that the British Ambassador, Simon Manley, was due to introduce Mr. Picardo. The Nueva EconomÃa Fórum hosts well-known speakers every few days, usually at breakfast, with Mariano Rajoy scheduled for next week. Former Chief Minister Sir Peter Caruana was himself a guest, twice, when the socialist PSOE was in government in Spain.
Meanwhile, the Government has told GBC it's not surprised by the disgraceful actions of the Spanish Foreign Minister who, it says, suffers a distinct by-passing of democratic principles when it comes to any Gibraltar matter.

I am against the over exp!oitation of any endagered species. I would not customise any restaurant that served bluefin not that there are many reputable chefs who would serve it anyway.
As for Fred's claim he should look at the official Gibraltar tourist site VisitGib. No doubt he will pretend that this too does not exist.

Or is it just Gib?’
That’s what I asked. Remember?
‘Thank you also for posting details of the overfishing by other neighbouring countries. I hope you are not using the " its OK for me to beat my wife because they neighbour does it as well defence as a reason for Gibraltar awarding itself a quota "’
And, ‘I am against the over exp!oitation of any endagered species. I would not customise any restaurant that served bluefin not that there are many reputable chefs who would serve it anyway.’
That’s what you came back with.
Doesn’t really answer my question, does it?
So Gib’s 10 tonnes is now overfishing. Compared with Malta’s 190 tonnes, for example?
In the 1990’s up until 2010 there was over-fishing in Med waters, and Bluefin was declared an endangered species. Read below from 2010. I am not going to turn this excellent thread into an environmental issue, but it makes interesting reading if you previously had no interest in the subject, as was the case with me.
The questionable practices extend across the industry, ICIJ found, from fishing fleets and farms, through ministry offices, to distributors in Japan. Led by the French, Spanish, and Italians, joined by Turks and others, Mediterranean fishermen violated official quotas at will and engaged in an array of illegal practices:
Over the past decade, more than €800 million of aid poured in yearly from the EU and member states to the overall European fishing industry, helping build overcapacity in the Mediterranean fleets.
ICCAT established the first country quotas in 1998, just as Spanish and Croatian fishmongers revolutionized the industry by setting up what were called “farms†— sea ranches, really — in the Mediterranean, where the fish are fattened for months before being shot in the head and shipped to Japan
Joining the EU fleets was ICCAT member Turkey, which ran a large, dilapidated fleet notorious for flouting the law. Meanwhile, North African states — Algeria, Libya, Egypt, and Tunisia — sold EU vessels entrance into their rich, unregulated waters in exchange for a cut of the catch, fishermen say. The result: annual catches jumped to 50,000 to 60,000 metric tons — almost double a typical quota of 30,000, according to ICCAT estimates, and three times what ICCAT scientists deemed sustainable. In 2007, the bluefin fishery spawning stock hit a record low — 78,724 tons, less than a third of its peak in 1958.
Ranching forever changed the nature of the Atlantic bluefin trade. Instead of catching the fish, killing them, and returning to port, vessels transferred live fish from their nets into cages, which slowly towed the fish to ranches to be fattened. But because the entire process happens under water, with live fish swimming about, ranching made it nearly impossible to verify the weight or number of fish caught.
“For the fish that are over quota, you have to find a solution†at the end of the season, said a former manager for a leading Spanish rancher. “You either trade it illegally or keep it until the next season … We took the over-quota fish to Tunisia.â€
One ranch attracting attention from authorities is Drvenik Tuna, a Croatian facility co-owned by the Cartagena, Spain-based Ricardo Fuentes & Sons, an industry pioneer which operates farms around the Mediterranean, including Malta, Tunisia, and Cyprus. Drvenik Tuna is jointly owned by Fuentes, Japanese trading giant Mitsubishi, and local partner Conex Trade. Drvenik has drawn criticism since its founding in 1998. Among the official complaints were setting up a ranch without proper authorization and operating a vessel without valid documents, according to enforcement records and interviews. Environmentalists have also complained that the company polluted nearby waters by dumping fish remains. Mitsubishi said Drvenik is “in full compliance with local and ICCAT regulations.â€
Things are different now. The ICCAT has increased quotas for this year as, due to the replenishment of stocks, Bluefin numbers have vastly improved. Gib has a quota of 10 tonnes for recreational fishing. But I ask you again, will you argue your case with other countries, notably Spain and Portugal, who treat these fish in a very cruel way, or do you only aim your comments at Gib, who are legally sea-catching 10 tonnes of Bluefin that are actually increasing in numbers? Tell me why it is not environmentally friendly to catch fish (I am not an angler) that the ICCAT has increased quotas on? Are you saying that all fishing for all types of fish everywhere is not environmentally friendly? Or just Bluefin in Gib?

My view is this just because your neighbour beats his wife 7 days week ( the overfishing by Spain and others ) it is not OK to beat your wife just one day week ( Gibraltar's self awarded quota ) . If you claim to be environmentaly responsive and an advocate of protecting the fishing in local waters ( ie GiB and the famous rocks ) then it is morally unacceptable to award yourself a quota for an endangered species.
If Gibraltar had come out with a policy of encouraging sports fishing but on a catch and returned basis I would applaud it.
Some of you keep forgetting that this is a thread about Gibraltar and as such any aspect of life and activities in Gibraltar is relevant.
If someone wants to change it to daily bulletins from the ministry then that is his prerogative.

Aside from the wanton destruction of fish that Gib demonstrably does not engage in, what other atrocities does Gib commit, in your opinion?

Of course 40 tonnes compared to the catch of others is insignificant but to repeat yet again and hopefully the point will finally be driven home the self awarded quota for an endagered species makes a mockery of Gibraltar's claims to be environmentaly active in the waters around Gibraltar.
Awarding itself 40 tonnes this year,400 the next who knows ?
As Fred keeps telling us Gibraltar does not have the recourses to harvest the self awarded quota so if you believe that you will believe anything.
