Re: Gibraltar 2
The UK does not have a quota for bluefin so any catch by British boats commercial or sport is illegal.
The UK is against catching endangered species.
IF and its a big IF commercially viable numbers of tuna did arrive in those UK waters open to other EU countries with a quota in the legal season they could in theory fish for them.
But they must have a quota agreed by the EU unlike Gibraltars self awarded one.
Fortunately the UK government takes a higher moral stance than Gibraltar.
I do not believe in if buts and maybes.
The facts are that there is little evidence if any illegal fishing for Bluefin in UK waters as the fish were either not present or when they were it was out if season.
Reality not theories..

Well, EU vessels (not countries) with a permit can fish legally for Blue Fin in UK waters, not in theory but by EU law. There is no theory to it. It is the EU law. They can.
As usual you have now gone completely off subject, i.e. your comments that under UK law Blue Fish tuna fishing is illegal in UK waters, so I’ll leave it there.

Re: Gibraltar 2
And oddly enough, it's an EU mandate to allow others to harvest bluefin in UK waters. It is, after all, only fair that the UK share equally with all its siblings... That's just being a good socialist, I reckon...
You know, that powerless central European non-entity that mysteriously makes up all the rules for all its children? I seem to remember there is a little debate going on about whether the UK should remain an EU subordinate or not, precisely for that reason. The UK is, after all, a grown up, is economically independent, and has proven itself responsible for its own affairs without needing mama to tell it how to behave, nor daddy to save it from bankruptcy.
Anyway, its not illegal to harvest bluefin in UK waters. Full stop.

But that wasn't the point in question. Bluefin tuna fishing is prohibited in UK waters. Full stop. Another of your "facts".

Its not illegal to harvest pacific blue fin either but they do not turn up in uk waters.
Do you want a list of countless other species that could be legally caught,if they did turn up that is.
Still who are we to deny the japanese their sushi HopefullyFred can tell us where the Gib catch went, to local restaraunts to be consumed by those without any morality or off to japan.
Do tell ?.
As the leaflet handed out by M&S says would you chose Bengal tiget, giant panda,or black rhino from a menu so why chose Bluefin among other species as you are inadvertantly contributing to their extinction.
As we know money and morality do not always go together certainly in this case they do not.

The Gibraltar Government confirmed these details and said a total of 26 specimens of Bluefin tuna had been confiscated for breaches of the regulations.
“Fish confiscated have been donated by the Department of the Environment and Climate Change to the hospital or Mount Alvernia,” a government spokesman
Mount Alvernia is the Old Peoples Home

I can only wonder... What does any of this have to do with Gibraltar? Really, an insignificant minnow in a big sea of predators. How is Gibraltar always the most guilty of everything?
Again, this never was about fish, was it?
