Amazing just how appropriate a persons name can appear to be on certain occasions.

Spanish police officer fined in Bluefin case

by Cristina Cavilla

A Spanish police officer who was caught red-handed illegally fishing Bluefin tuna in British waters fled from Gibraltar’s police because he did not recognise their jurisdiction, the Magistrates Court was told yesterday.

I read the paper edition in the Garrison Library this morning.
The Spaniard immediately after the incident wrote a letter of apology to the Royal Gibraltar Police and in court he pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

He was fined £800.

Tobacco giant will equip Guardia Civil to tackle smuggling

A global tobacco giant will fund hi-tech equipment for Guardia Civil officers combating cigarette smuggling.

Philip Morris, which produces major brands including Marlboro, will provide equipment and intelligence under an agreement signed with the Guardia Civil this week.

The company aims to support the Guardia Civil’s counter-smuggling operations with the purchase of equipment including mobile scanners and thermal cameras for marine units.

Specialist officers will also be equipped with portable equipment to facilitate detection of fake cigarettes by reading Philip Morris product codes.

It would take a very brave or foolish man to say that on this side of the border.

You must be referring to the €30,000 reasons not to tell the truth in Spain.

How cheeky. Another example of Gibraltarian greed. Hogging all the world's bluefin to themselves, and then having the audacity to arrest any outsider who attempts to get a few of their own.

I am waiting for Fred to post the details of the charges and fines applied to those Gibraltarians who were responsible for catching the confiscated fish he recently referred to.
If a Spanish fisherman was fined then in law abiding Gibraltar so would have been the locals, or would they ?...

A London court has ruled that a Gibraltar Government-owned company is entitled to nearly £10m in claims arising from legal disputes related to the construction of Waterport Terraces.

The judgement means Gibraltar Residential Properties Limited [GPRL] can now chase the claims in the Madrid court handling the liquidation of Gibralcon 2004 SA, the company that built the estate.
