COSTA ESURI - AYAMONTE

Re: COSTA ESURI - AYAMONTE
They are playing home against Murcia...likely to be sunday at 17:00. A full stadium would be a surprise, unless they give away tickets, given the importance of the game. It should not be more than 50 euro. "Gol Sur" seems to be the funny end of the stadium, by the way.

Temperature on Saturday just before noon was on the illuminated signs in town as 31 degrees and it felt like it as we trudged around the market.

Can anyone help me on these questions please
1. When is 'Holy week', please?
2. a) Are the shops etc closed on Holy week please? b) Are the services people closed this week, e.g lawyers, Notaires, workmen on the site etc, please?
3. Does anybody know the dates of the Spanish and French School holidays - when the roads will get crammed. We're flexible and if there are any 'black' days then we can easily avoid them.
4. I've heard that Ayamonte do a great set of events and its worth being there in Holy week, can anybody tell me if this is so and what sorts of things people do please?
Any advice please?
Thanks
Jon

Re: COSTA ESURI - AYAMONTE
Hi Jon,
1/ Holy Week is from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. 16th to the 23rd March 2008.
2/ If I can remember from last year, Holy Thursday and Good Friday are quiet days at the shops. However, some shops are open in Portugal. Also, same quiet days for services.
3/ Don't know about school holiday dates for Spain or France. As for traffic hotspots in Spain, google "la operacion salida de semana santa" or go on the dgt.es website (in spanish) which is "la direccion general del trafico", or something like that.
4/ Ayamonte is beautiful during Semana Santa. I posted some photos from last year on the old thread. There is a little book, published locally, with the listing of the different parades/times. Perhaps someone might be kind enough to pass on the info when it becomes available.
Regards,
Carol

Hi, Almonte is not very big, but is lovely to look around. Best bet is to follow signs to the Feria and park there. Then you can walk through the pedestrianised town, cobbled streets €6 menu del dia restaurants, beautiful church (often open), everything is all within walking distance from each other. Well signposted to the tourist office where they have plenty of literature of places to see. Some evenings there are flamenco shows in local bars. It is a beautiful place to visit, as is El Rocio, only 10 minutes further!
Enjoy your trip!

Re: COSTA ESURI - AYAMONTE
Thank you. It was easy to take such pictures, because the colours of the flowers were amazing.
I had been looking on the web recently for photos of Semana Santa, and came across some interesting ones. For example, the feet of the men (los costaleros?) who carry the heavy floats ("heavy floats" this is an oxymoron). I'll try to find the website again, and post the photo if possible.
Hasta pronto,
Carol

Hi Carol E!
I remembered your photos, especially the one with the little dog! I think there was a beautiful photo of the church in El Rocio at Christmastime. (Wish I had saved these on my computer.)

El Rocio.....that brings back pleasant memories of a leisurely lunch watching some poor soul having to dig their car out of some deep sand....in the main street!! Brilliant place and well worth the visit.

Re: COSTA ESURI - AYAMONTE
Finally going to get out to CE. Finally going to complete.
Staying at the Barcelo Isla Canela from Sunday through to next Thursday, by which time I should own a house on CE - then 4 star luxury goes out the window for a sleeping bag on cold tiles :-)
Staying in Seville for the 14-16th then back to London.
I'll be back in April to furnish.
Anyone around for beverages, weddings, bar mitzvahs or just a lunch?
