Oh dear, you are seriously rattled.
Although unlike you I think it is terrible what muslims are doing in the name of islam in the UK, I actually do not live my life through this forum. As you can see our post count differs rather dramatically. you; joined Aug 2006 Posts: 44,091 me: joined April 2008 Posts: 1,463 What you have described is how yourself would react, because this forum is a lot more imortant to you than it is to me. And although I am against what is happening in the UK, (which BTW I also feel the same way abuot other things that are happeing too) it is no so all consuming as it seems to you. As long as my daughter is not involved with a muslim (of course that would not happen, as she is too smart and is getting married next year) the isues of Islam do not affect me directly. So you unlike you my life does not have to revolve around trying not to offend by speaking out against savage practices, or upsetting some of the more tolerant posters who play such a large part in your life. |

Re: British standards ???
Apparently in a recent survey ( OECD )on literacy in the 18-24 age group the UK ranks 22nd out of 24. Only Spain and Italy were lower.
Above the UK were countries like Poland ( 9 ), Estonia (5 ), Slovakia (14 ), Czech republic(10 ). Perhaps this is one reason why some employers prefer workers from eastern europe.!! Under qualified, under motivated teachers and sub standard schools are given as some of the reasons " Some of the worst miscreants come from white working class families where unemployed parents are passing on their own contempt for education. The problem is NOT immigrants but white working class kids in areas with relatively few jobs " Ofsted. While standards have risen in London they have fallen in the coastal resorts of the east and south east. Children are floundering in towns such as Hastings and Great Yarmouth . These reports suggest that the UK faces much bigger problems in falling education standards than the gender restrictions ( now ended ) that were being applied in one muslim school. Scource Sunday Times. |

Scource Sunday Times. Our efforts have produced illiterate louts, an epidemic of obese babies, and old people mistreated in care homes. You can only conclude that throwing money at the problems only make them worse. But you've got to blame something because our proud nation didn't suddenly stumble into illiteracy for no reason. I suspect there is no simple answer, certainly not a political one, Could it have something to do with the country being flooded with immigrants who do the work we used to do, taking away any ambition for the indigenous population to compete? Let the foreigners work for silly money, we can get more in benefits? I'm sure I'm wrong, but I can't think of anything else. |
Re: British standards ???
I do not thinsk that there is any one reason as this problem goes back 20 years not just in the last decade.
I do think that the closure of traditional industries, which employed 100,s thousands of semi and unskilled labour and had been the local employment for generations is one of the major causes . The question that no one has and answer to is why in some cultures is there an aspirational drive to inprove which is lacking in much of the west ?? |
Re: British standards ???
A young Arab boy asks his father, "What is that weird hat you are wearing?"
The father said, "Why, it's a 'chechia' because in the desert it protects our heads from the sun." "And what is this type of clothing that you are wearing?" asked the young man. "It's a 'djbellah' because in the desert it is very hot and it protects the body." said the father. The son asked, "And what about those ugly shoes on your feet? His father replied, "These are 'babouches", which keep us from burning our feet in the desert." "So tell me then," added the boy. "Yes, my son?" "Why are you living in London, and still wearing all this clothing? |
Re: British standards ???
What has that got to do with falling educational standards in the white UK population in areas where there are not large immigrant communities.
London the city with the largest numbers and nationalities has improved Why ???? |
Re: British standards ???
