And there lies a problem.
Tell me why woman should seek approval?
My wife for example is free to do as she pleases within the vows of marriage. Basically, not to cheat! Other than that, she can meet with who she likes. Family, friends and even X´s. It´s her life to live as she pleases and though I´m her husband, it isn´t for me to tell her not to do the things she likes.
My Sister can do what the heck she wants to do. Never any judgement on my part, or of my Broters.
Then I guess there´s my Mother. But then she´s perfect which leaves nothing more to say!

I am afraid you are generalising. Islam is not one homogenous group of people, there are different, groups, different countries of origin etc. etc. with different codes of behaviour you are describing the worst.
I can assure you that what you describe is not the rule everywhere.

The problem is that many of the Islamic groups in the UK originate from Pakistan, where what you describe is more the general rule. So you think all are like that.

In our UK home town, the Muslim group are from the country that I may not mention;) and there is a large Muslim community in that same country that I am expat in. They do not fit your description.

One worrying feature is the radicalisation of very young women, in our town here a burqa was never seen, and still not among older women but I see more and more of the very young in burkas, I think to some extent it is rebellion against negative views.

It was just a 'figure of speech'!! The general posts here are, that all Muslim women are 'chained to the sink' (some are). I was just trying to point out that Muslim parents are as proud of their daughters in the same way as other parents.

It depends what you mean by "any degree"? I know many Muslim men who are very proud of their daughters and also attend Mosque etc.

As I said above there are different communities of Muslims and attitudes vary. Just a they do in different communities of Christians.

Unfortunately I'm not really generalizing

I'm probably one of the very few here that has actually read the Koran from end to end (about 40 years ago) I'm not going to cite the things In my travels in the East do you want to know which country I found to be the most tolerant, most people don't believe this but it was Afghanistan !

Most Indian Muslims (IME) keep a low profile because of past history with Hindus. There are lots of moderate Muslims in the developed world (i.e USA etc.) and the developing world (i.e India) Unfortunately the recent wave of immigration has brought a few bad apples.

But please make no mistake about it Islam is one of the worlds dangerous religions IMO

Funnily enough I just realised it was exactly 40 years this year that I read (to quote in BBC PC speech) 'the Muslim Holy Book'

PS Maybe I should make it clear in general I have no problems with Muslims at all it's Islam I don't like or approve of

I absolutely agree with your view regarding the dangers of the Islamic religion to the world.

Also, we recently met up with taxi drivers in Chiswick, from Afghanistan, such nice people, and so 'home sick', but could not go back there, to the continuing violence and fears for their families.

You are wrong about "most" Indian* Muslims, they certainly don't keep a low profile!! :) The next general election result will depend to a great extent on the views of Muslims in many States.
We are lucky to live in a cosmopolitan town where Muslims, Christians and the majority Hindus get on very well without problems.

*You mentioned it first!!!!!:p

Are you saying that people who go abroad to get married have to get a visa from the UK government? Bit odd, I've needed loads of visas but only ever from the country I'm visiting. Oh well...

No the Chiswick episode was a visit to family, but often stay there before going to Heathrow, therefore use this particular taxi service.

As a parent bringing up children in London, I tried my best to live in an area where they would have the best chance in life. I was living in Hackney when they were babies and watched Hackney turn black. I fled to Leyton but that turned black also. I just managed to get to white Upminster before they started school.

Years later, when the children had moved away as adults, I returned to black Hackney and lived quite happily among the people I had moved away from to give my children a better chance in life.

I admit to feeling guilty sometimes when I read the Guardian online when waking up to Spanish sunshine. So I switch to the Telegraph which makes me feel less of a hypocrite. And the DM removes any remaining guilt.

I was asking because of the mix of cultures that seem to live side by side without issue. It made me think of the time I too lived in London.
The picture seems to change the further north you go ... unfortunately!
