I thought also it was something to 1066, but no.

My only other thought was a three letter battle ending in L with a D in the middle that means cruel.

Bit obscure, but might help.

Twelfth Night Scene 1 Act 1.

That instant was I turn'd into a hart;
And my desires, like fell and cruel hounds,
E'er since pursue me.

I'm sure fell is right...

What does fell mean?

fellfɛl(adj.)
fierce; cruel; dreadful; savage:
a fell beast.
destructive; deadly:
a fell blow; a fell disease.
... bit obscure maybe.

OK 7. I was foxed on this one so I cheated and I have an answer but it's so bad I'm refusing to believe it's correct. So I'm not saying what it is.

It can't be any worse than I've come up with. Even made up a few words

Apparently Rab C Nesbitt is also known as the Govan Philosopher.

He certainly fits the bill of 'armchair philosopher'

It's good enough for me and full credit to you for that one.

Todays crossword is impossible. I'm too ashamed to say how badly I've done.

Can anyone help with this one.
