Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

Your "retail work" = my "shop assistant". All the jobs she seems to be able to get are 10% window work and 90% shop floor selling....driving her mad!

In my day it was " peace studies" that the dossers went for

Err, ditto on the apologies

The unemployment rate in this quarter of 2007 was 5.4% - a difference of over 800,000 people compared to now. Reducing unemployment by 4,000 in a month will take a very long time to get people into work.If you read post 630, you'll see that I think the economy will eventually improve.
Reducing unemployment by 4,000 in a month when the working age population has increased by 40,000 in the same time with a working population the size of the UK is one heck of an achievement that I think any country in the world will envy.
The reason I harp on is that people who read this are likely to be thinking of their possibility of finding work. The figures are quite unequivocal. You can huff and puff as much as you like, trying to make people feel bad, but their chances are very good indeed. It may not always be the work people want at least initially but people who move in search of something better are, in my experience, very determined people.
The rate of job creation in the UK gives all a chance

Even if things improve in the next 4 years, there will be a backlog of graduates who have been unable to get suitable employment so it will still be a pretty competitive job market. Most of our graduates have been unable to get suitable work for a few years now.

It doesn't even make a dent in the unemployment figures.

So - no answer then to any of the substantive points anybody has made.
One question....
Why do you not respond to all posts by simply saying that despite any and all evidence to the contrary, you will always say it is bad in the UK?
That would save everyone a lot of time
DNFTT.
Why did I not think of that?

Have you also not read the post where I said that things will improve eventually?

Serious question.
Is it better to have 300 people employed earning £12k per annum or 100 people employed earning £36k per annum?
