I don't know in that specific field but generally speaking, there are plenty of foreigners here who don't speak any Cantonese who work and get by fine.

I've only been to Macau a few times, it is quite a small place really and not somewhere I'd personally move to...unless you like gambling there are many other places in Asia I'd rather live in.

english traveller - Macau and HK run completely separately as far as I know so I wouldn't expect being a dependent of someone with HK permanent residency to make any difference.

Cantonese and Mandarin and very different, there are SOME words that are similar enough to understand but you could not get very far with just Cantonese in China and Mandarin speakers may struggle...
