Default Living/Working in Macau

Hi I am looking at a job in Macau, and was wondering what it is like as a city. I am looking to bring my whole family with me so if anybody has any advice on schools and accommodation I would really appreciate it.

I've only been to Macau a few times, it is quite a small place really and not somewhere I'd personally move to...unless you like gambling there are many other places in Asia I'd rather live in.

You can try to post on 'Geoexpat' as I know there are some Hong Kong expats who used to live there or have links to there so will know far more than me

Well its a discussion forum / classifieds / job site for Hong Kong but I've read a few Macau related things there and remember some of the frequent members there used to live there or work there etc, I just found this thread of interest for you

Also googling has shown up macau.asiaxpat.com and this thread on this site as well as macau.expat9.com

Probably lots of info on the interwebs - Google is your friend!

Macau does have one of the best sporting events in the calendar... Providing you like motor racing. As far as I'm aware though, it is heavily Gambling oriented... So there might not be much there for Kids.

You might compare HK/Macau with Singapore/Johor Baru.

When we lived in HK we used to visit Macau for long week ends.
It was a great short getaway, so much less stress.

Very crowded.

Some very good european style restaurants, well, Portuguese really and Fanandos out on one of the islands was terrific for a long lunch, although we've heard it's deteriorated a lot recently.

Good cultural life as well for such a small place with annual opera week etc.

But can't remember any big supermarkets then or big schools.

The casinos have taken off since we were there.
They also have horse racing, dog racing and F3.

Really nice place for a short break, we like the place a lot, but I would have thought not easy to live there.

The expats I knew who lived there and worked for a sub contractor of our company were single and just there for the dosh. They were there in a similar way to ex pats in the middle east 30 or more years ago, if you know what I mean.
