The pumped storage capacity of the UK is tiny in comparison to the total power requirements so I am not sure where you get this idea. The variations in wind power are handled as any other variation...

Oh how naive. Australia is the worlds biggest coal producer, and this tax will have no effect whatsoever on those inefficient Chinese 'orrible brown coal power stations.
