Hey everyone!
Im currently in the process of getting my visa (yawn!) and hopefully making the big move to Perth in Late July.
My partner is an Aussie, so ill be going over on a Defacto spouse visa, spoken to my C/O and she sounds confident, everything supplied so just a waiting game now! eeeek!
So just looking to chat to people going through the same thing or people who have already been through it and made it! Been looking through some other posts and everyone is so kind and supportive to each other.
Does anyone else live in Perth and how are you finding it? xxxx

Dont know where you've been looking and found kind and supportive posts.. We're a mob of angry banshees. It may appear friendly but you ask about north south divide in wa or the price of lettuce and you'll see a wholely different forum emerge... Mwah ha ha ha haaaaaa.....
We arrived three odd years ago and totally love it.... And yes this IS an excellent site for help, hints and advice.. But always carry a bag of salt so you can take a pinch now and again... And dont be afraid to leap in and post too... As well as read...

I'm originally from Perth so if you have any questions, fire away. Haven't live there for nearly 10 years tho so might be a better bet asking the folk on here for more recent advise! have just returned from Perth last week after a wee holiday there - and am making arrangements to move back. Taking my spouse (Scottish) with me so we will be going through the whole spouse visa process soon . . perhaps you can share your process of Spouse visa on here!
Have you decided where you're moving to? Job?

Hiya Guys,
Apologies for the earlier post, was on the Iphone and couldnt write a long reply!
Ill be moving with my partner who is an Aussie, we will start off living in the southern river area of perth (thats where his parents live) - and will probably have a look around for an area we both like when weve settled.
Its nerve wracking, but very very exciting, and all the feedback ive recieved so far tells me ill never look back! Im a fully qualified hair dresser and beauty therapist, so will probably get a job doing that but anything will do to tide us over when we first get there!
Ive one (somewhat silly!) question....everyone i speak to says "oh you never see spiders, only in the bush/in older houses etc etc" - but honestly, how many big spiders/redbacks do you ACTUALLY see?
(im undergoing hypnotherapy for my irrational fear of them, i know - how tragic!) xxxxxx

I am the same so would appreciate the knowledge.

Yikes! Sounds busy!
Hopefully someone whos lived in suburban Perth can give us some honest answers about bugs, im soooo sick of my OH saying ill never see them - how does he know? lol!!!
(ps, Paul Mckenna does a fantastic hypnosis MP3 to help get over arachnophobia...its on his website... about £20...pricey i guess, but cheaper than a real life hypnotherapy session and you can use it again and again -very worth it to stop a life of squealing!)

It is possible to be an arachnophobe (and other bugs) and survive in Perth, I've been doing it for years
. I've even been bitten by a redback, though luckily I didn't see the beast as it bit me on the back of the leg and was only a male (the female is more venomous
). You're careful, especially with kids' toys outside, and with outdoor furniture, or around the edge of the pool. Redback and other spiders are not allowed inside the house, as far as I'm concerned

This is a run-down of my typical Aussie day.
6.30am: Wake up and go for a swim before work. I get attacked by a box jellyfish and several Great White Sharks.
7.30am: I get in my ute & off to work I go. Oh shit there's a Brown Snake in here! I get bitten several times. Meh.
8.30am: Start work. Oh **** me there's a Red Back Spider . I wake up after I get bitten and continue working.
12.00pm: I go to get lunch and am attacked by a kangaroo on the way.
2:00pm: Home time. On the way home I get bitten by a Dugite. **** those Dugite, man.
10:30pm: Right before bed I'm mauled to death by a Dropbear. **** those buggers.
I am quite immune to these animals now, so I can take this shit daily. That's just how I roll.

You will see the odd spider in the garden and things - some big ones such as huntsmen, but they are harmless. Same with orb spiders which are really pretty!
Redbacks and things are not that common in the city. My wife saw her first the other day and we have been here 2.5 years and are fairly rural.
Out in the bush is another matter. We have a plague of redbacks here at work at the moment after we had a big flood last week - i work in the desert. Spent half an hour last night with a can of spray killing them around my room.
