Default Gillard announced Sept 14 election.

A cynic might say it will be nigh impossiblein for any member of the Labour party to say anything negative about a campaigning leader.

Still... it will be a long 8 months...

Default Re: Gillard announced Sept 14 election.

Liberal frontbencher Malcolm Turnbull said: “Deeply disappointed that Julia Gillard chose to hold the election on Yom Kippur - the most solemn and sacred day of the Jewish year.”

9 months of even more pathetic sniping on the most flimsy of pretexts.

I'd did like the fact that abbott was on a plane when announced, so was effectively silenced until he gets where he's going. I wonder if that was planned.....

Default Re: Gillard announced Sept 14 election.

The thing to note is that this all seems to be part of a plan. We get an election called earlier than expected, and Gillard does it wearing glasses and with a new do. It's not done off-the-cuff, or because she was forced into it. Somewhere there is a wall with a gantt chart on it.

Expect Labor to run a master plan between now and September aimed at collapsing Abbott, and with him the right wing. This is probably the first Oz election which will be run by the spin doctors, and unless Abbott has got more of a clue than he showed in the spring, he's going to be on the back foot the whole way.

Not to mention that the election is now going to be before the final budget analysis is revealed...

That's bad.

Imagine the Government revenue if everyone refused to vote.

I'll be in the US that day. But I may request my Postal Vote now, given that we've had so much warning

I think the most used phrase of the year will be 'Hobson's Choice'

Indeed.

I would expect the female vote to be secured over the coming months with more anti male / pro female drivel from the PM.

This election will be dominated be feminist issues and Abbott will again be targeted as anti female.

The day after the election - 15th September- the main headline will be 'it's the women wot won it' followed a return to normal service on the 16th Sept about how bad women have it in Australia.

Expect lots of bitchy personal sniping over the next 8 months and very little policy substance.
