Re: Long Weekend In Brisbane

Thanks for the responses. Decided to hire a car on the Sunday to get to the coast as it is indeed cheap at $39 for the day. Didn't hire for the weekend though as parking would be a problem plus we...

Long Weekend In Brisbane

My girlfriend and I are heading to Brisbane on Friday for a long weekend and although I have a rough plan of what we're going to do, I just wanted to check a couple of things:

1. What's the best...

Best way to send small sums of cash back to the UK?

I need to send roughly £100 over to the UK but don't really know what the best way to go about it is. Sending large sums I'm fine with using Ozforex/UKforex but obviously their service isn't any good...

Re: Has anyone opened up an Australian bank account

I found ANZ were the easiest of the big 4 to set up an account with whilst still in the UK. You get the option of opening both a current and a savings account at the same time, and you won't get...

Re: Shipping from Leeds to Melbourne

I used http://www.freedomshipping.com/ and went with 5 Tea cartons. Very reasonably priced, good service thus far, just awaiting on the boxes to arrive in Oz on 20th December now.

Re: How good is this folks.

Any sources to back up that little nugget of info? Or is it, as I suspect, plucked out of thin air?

Please stop making up figures and trying to represent them as facts. The truth is you have...

Re: How good is this folks.

Executed for drug trafficking? That's unbelievable. Whilst I support the use of the death sentence in horrific crimes (Pre-meditated mass murder, rape and murder of a child etc) drug trafficking...

Re: Why are you moving to Oz?

Nope, just did the online quiz to see if I was eligible and the 'have you lived in the UK for more than 6 months between 1980 and 1996' question appeared. As soon as you put yes, you effectively get...

Re: Aussies do not want our support.

Why do you have to have been brought up with a sport to be a real sports fan? Can you not become a real sports fan later on in life?

What, even if they don't like or even hate their home...

Re: One of my best mates died yesterday

Going back for the funeral? No, I probably wouldn't. Going back to see my seriously ill mother and attending the funeral whilst in the UK? Very probably, yes.

Re: Why are you moving to Oz?

[/QUOTE]

That's ridiculous. Surely if you'd contracted CJD in those 16 years, symptoms would have manifested themselves by now? Also, could they not just carry out a test on anyone that has lived...

Re: ARE THERE ANY CHEAP FLIGHTS AVAILABLE END OF DEC/JAN

We're flying to Adelaide from Heathrow with Malaysia Airlines on the 28th December and that cost us around £650 per ticket. We did book it a few months ago now though so whether you'd still be able...

Re: Why are you moving to Oz?

I have one main reason why I'm moving to Oz - my girlfriend. She's from Adelaide but came over to the UK last year to work. She's going back home in December and I decided to go over there with her....

See, this is what gets me. You're complaining about the incident yet you've not heard it nor have you any idea what actually happened. For your info, the reason that Andrew Sachs was contacted wasn't...

Re: Aussies do not want our support.

What's the big deal? People are entitled to support who they like, regardless of where they are from. How many Manchester United supporters are actually from Manchester for example? Not many. Did...

The reason that I went with them is that they...

Excellent column on the whole debacle:

The column pretty much sums up my thoughts exactly.

Re: *That* Prank By Ross & Brand

This whole saga is a complete joke. The media have whipped it up into a complete frenzy when really, it wasn't that big a deal at all. It was prank that simply went too far. It wasn't malicious in...

Re: Pro's and con's of Brisbane???

A couple of Brisbane cons that I've read about are as follows:

1. It can get extremely humid.
2. It gets dark very early on an evening. A lack of daylight savings time does not help this.

I doubt that very much, given that it's still taught as being called Ayers Rock, as well as Uluru.

re: Sevenseas

How long ago did you send them? What was the date the ship left the country? When did they estimate that your boxes would arrive? Have you spoken to the company and asked what has caused the hold up?...
