Re: Any ideas how to persuade employer to sponsor PR visa?

Me to. They've agreed to sponsor after 2 years but that's in Oct 09. Would be very interested in how they sponsor earlier, especially without having a skills assesment.

Re: whos applying 457 now applying for pr x

Ta for the info. Job is minimum 3 year degree. Looks like RSMS could be a way to try and get PR sooner. Employer might be happier if I am commited to 2 years with them. Then if that visa isn't...

Re: whos applying 457 now applying for pr x

Actually it's probably a bit deeper than how I explained it. Basically if I had applied for an assessment a week earlier than I did, I would have been registered...no questions but apparently the...

Re: whos applying 457 now applying for pr x

ENS is much, much cheaper than RSMS by the proverbial country kilometer.

Re: whos applying 457 now applying for pr x

UK -> NZ 2001
NZ -> Oz Oct 2007 on a 457.

Applied for independent immigration July 07 and was refused due to my skills assessment not being 'up to scratch' even though I had a gazillion points...

Re: ANY SUNSHINE COAST MEET UP'S?

I'm from Penarth as well. Don't live down there though, I live all the way up in TNQ. Went to Stanwell School and got slaughtered too often in the Railway!!!

Re: 457-Health Insurance

Company have offered ENS next Oct so hopefully not too many dramas between now and then. We are used to paying for medical visits having come from NZ, so it's not 'too' bad.

Re: 457-Health Insurance

Ummmm, no. If we had we wouldn't have needed a 457! Didn't really cross our minds until we decided to come to Aus. Typical.

Re: 457-Health Insurance

We are UK citizens but having lived in NZ for the last 8 years we are classed as being from NZ. They said we cannot receive Medicare being from NZ but do have reciprocal health cover as we're UK...

Re: 457-Health Insurance

We are here on a 457. Medicare told us we weren't eligible for Medicare because we were from NZ/UK. However, she did say that as soon as I apply for PR we can claim Medicare. Note the 'apply' not...

Re: 457 and family

I was in virtually the same situation. My missus came over with me on an ETA. I had neglected to include her on my 457. We went and talked to the immigration service and found out she was allowed to...

Re: anyone applying july 2007

I do count myself very lucky and I do feel for those who desperately want to come over and can't/have to wait. I think the rant was more to do with the complete lack of communication than anything...

Re: anyone applying july 2007

I have to have a rant.

I applied for skilled PR visa in July 07. When they said it would take 6-12 months to process my application I found another way of getting to Aus. I'm now here on a 457...

Re: Welsh Grand Slam!!!!!!!!

Well that's cheered me up no end. After having St Patricks day rammed down my throat and when I asked if they knew when St Davids day was - blanks looks.

So a question...why do the we play so well...

Re: Don't shoot the messenger........

In 7 years, we never locked our garage. If we forgot to lock the house when we went out, we didn't care. That happened many times. I lost count how may times we didn't lock the house at night after...

Re: Looking to move to Brisbane from New Zealand

We had a 30 metre square container. We brought over everything, except for a two seater settee (but included a ride on mower, snooker table and the usual gumph). Allied Pickford cost us roughly $15k....

I know...they were getting desperate for cover so I relented and put my hand up. 'Hopefully' being Easter it will be quiet and I'll be able to pop in.:)

Re: First weeks in Cairns

I went through Reservoir Road at 5.30 this morning. We were all doing 50/60kph, wipers going triple speed. Then some knob decides they want to do 80kph!! Why? Saw at least one vehicle in a ditch....
