I travelled Europe using mainly a British Passport with friends using an Oz passport, no difference what so ever between the both. Most countries issue a visa on arrival or applications are lodged...

I do too, with Australia being so much closer to Asia then the UK I think if you got into any sort of trouble in Asia the Oz Government will be quicker and maybe more informed to assist.

I have travelled with both Oz and British passport, leaving and entering Oz using my Oz passport, and using the British passport all through Europe, we travelled with friends who only used an Oz...

Anything on the verge is collected and taken to the tip anyways so it would have been scrapped, if not taken sooner.
There is always the freecycle network to get rid of unwanted, but still usable...

It's called Contact, used to be able to buy rolls in Bunnings, all sorts of colors and patterns, not sure if they still sell it but maybe worth a look. It is a better quality than the stuff you get...

I tend to agree with you, I know someone who goes around during council pick up and just cuts the leads off whitegoods, he sells them for the copper inside.
