As a Canadian citizen you have a distinct advantage (should you see it that way) over many other Brits in that you can apply to the RCMP who are actively recruiting. I worked in the police in the UK...

I know that when we came over we brought letters from the UK banking institutions that indicated that we were creditworthy...certainly helped.

It has just been announced here today that the Canadian $ will reach parity with the US $ by the summer...what that means for the pound is worth investigating for those waiting to change money over.
