"Informal Chats" with Employers

Re: "Informal Chats" with Employers
Not strictly true, sometimes part of the "test" is to see if you turn up in casual clothes - I once went to a graduate event where they'd specified NOT to turn up in a suit but smart casual. My uncle gave me advice to ignore this and turn up in a suit..... So I did and everyone else was in smart casual, I got rejected for "not fitting in"
Admittedly, this is probably more for graduate type nonsense than a straight interview at a fully qualified level, but moral of the story is use your best judgment and go with it (I didn't).

Probably for the best, think it would have been a crap job anyway (risk management, ugh)....

There is no one universal rule for Canadian office attire - it completely depends on the industry and the individual company. It varies! But the rule of thumb for any kind of interview? Dress to impress.

Re: "Informal Chats" with Employers
For any informal meeting with prospective employers in a purely meet/greet, and fact finding/showcasing environment, i'm inclined to wear nice dark jeans, a shirt, a suit jacket, a nice pair of shoes, and no tie.
Relaxed yet smart.

My Oh turned up for his interview in a suit... the Managing Director who was interviewing was wearing a denim jacket and jeans!
