Re: Mobiles / Cells - does this exist?

If you're calling the same people on a regular basis, I can recommed Jajah. It allows you to assign local Canadian numbers to your contacts and the Jajah rates are about the same as other VOIP...

Re: PNP Timeline - please add your experiences

Sounds about right. BC PNP was approved in about 7weeks (Oct 2009), but we sent the federal application in Apr 2010 and are still waiting...nearly 16 months!

The frustration is just not knowing. ...

Re: Current timescale for BC PNP visa?

From our experience, you're currently looking at about 14months+.

We've been in BC on a 3yr temp work permit since 2008 and we're sponsored by my wife's employer (health care). BC PNP...

Re: Squamish

For a short walk in (near) Squamish itself, go through town and up to Alice Lake. The Four Lakes trail takes about 1.5-2hrs, mostly flat forest trails and very scenic.

When the weather improves,...

Re: Leaving the country on 'Implied Status'

This is the fact that I would be double-checking in advance. In effect, you are relying on the border guard to approve a new TWP for you at the border without a LMO. Will the letter of support be...

For the record, here's a happy update:

ICBC renewed my driving license under my implied TWP status, another 2 months and hopefully my TWP (and PR!) will have arrived by then.

I spoke to ICBC...

Renewing BC driving licence on Implied status

Ok, here's an unusual situation I haven't read about before.

In short, I'm still waiting (a long time!) for my BC PNP PR application to be approved and my TWP is about to expire. I've applied for...

Re: Anybody moved without doing a recce trip first?

Wife & I moved to Vancouver in 2008 without a recce, in fact we'd never been to Canada before. My wife is a nurse and followed up an advert in a magazine for a role in her field, got the job offer...

Re: How do I.. Tech advice for videos please

I don't know the camera, but that sounds about right for HD movies in their original format. In 720p MOV format, thats only about 45seconds of time! 750-800mb for a full movie is when it has been...

Re: Shipping small amounts

Most airlines will ship cargo from airport-to-airport as said above, so it depends if the airports are convenient for you. You'll have to drop the boxes at the airport in the UK and collect from the...

Re: Bc PNP App in process, work permit exp SOON!

Just to throw another question into the muddle: does BC PNP give you implied status until the PR approval arrives?

I don't know, but I might have to find out soon myself. My wife (nurse) &...

Re: How to avoid credit card fee with Canadian Affair

When we first arrived, RBC wouldn't give us unsecured credit, so we did have to deposit $1000 into a GIC. However, using it and paying it off monthly builds a credit history, even on TWP. I...
