Hi guys,
I have a Canon SX10 Powershot camera, which allows me to take short videos. I've taken a couple of my little baby and want to send a copy to granny and nana back in England.
I tried to email them, the file size is around 150mb (?) I think, so it won't go as an attachment. So I tried joining Flickr, but the file size is too big, it won't download them onto there. So I tried Youtube, but it says unspecified error and won't download them.
What can I do to share the little videos with folks in England? The only other idea I had was to save them onto a pendrive and post them home, but that would take forever too-ing and fro-ing. Please help me!!
Thanks

Coincidentally, I'm sat here waiting for the laptop to convert some movie files I just took with the little Sony camera I have... You'll probably have to use the software that came with your camera to convert the movies to a file type such as .avi or .wmv.
I did a quick search and found the manual (I think it's for your camera) http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/3/0300004033/01/ZB66_EN.pdf On page 33 there are some very basic instructions, take a look and see if you can convert your movie files to some other format that youtube will let you upload?
150MB is a huge file btw, when you upload to youtube try to aim to make it 5-20MB, if possible.

if its to much faff to compress them or alter the file type, or zip them.
burn them onto a dvd and post them, or post a cheap usb stick.

Hi
Try microsoft's "Sky Drive".
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-skydrive
If you have a hotmail account it very easy to access.
This service allocates online storage space (up to 25 GB) where you can upload photos and vidoes. You can then email access information to other people. They can then view and/or download the videos. Its Free.
Cheers

150 mb seems very high for a short video
Most full movies are only around 750-800 mb

Most free online storage e.g. Skydrive, will be limited so that individual files are no more than 50mb. 150mb is a BIG file and you'll need some sort of transfer manager tool to upload/download it successfully.
As has already been said, the best option is to compress it. Try AVI or WMV formats, preferably at a lower resolution too. Your camera software should be able to do the trick, or for a PC try Windows Movie Maker (pre-installed on most Windows computers, or free to download).
As well as Youtube, you could try Vimeo or Facebook. Facebook has a 1000Mb upload limit and if you can get granny & nana on there as well (yes, it can be done!), you can make the video private to them. In fact, our baby daughter had her own Facebook profile before birth, which may sound stupid until you consider how easy it is to upload photos/videos and make them private for family back home. Just take the time to double-check all the security privileges.
