I would try taking some holidays to places in the US that have more international flavour. San Francisco, Seattle, L.A., Chicago, Miami.

I took a laptop over and ran it through an adapter and surge protector...it still got fried. Do your research well! (It did take a few months, though).

Communities do exist that are planned so that schools are within walking distance, but they are bit Milton Keynes like. (Consider Irvine, CA as one example.) My mum got to walk my sister a half...

My opinion on education UK vs. US as a teacher who as lived both system is:
-the UK primary school education is superior to the US one.
-the US secondary school education is superior to the UK one....
