Re: Some common sense by a judge.

I guess we'll have to agree to differ. If refusing to excuse harmful behaviour on cultural grounds is bigoted, so be it.

Re: Some common sense by a judge.

My mind is open to all cultures, I speak 2 other languages and you can't learn a language without learning the culture. I've lived in 4 different counties and adapted to their ways - where it made...

Re: Some common sense by a judge.

Shorts and flip flops are sensible in a hot climate. Wearing a mask is daft in any normal climate (I can see a reason for ski-masks in the extreme cold outdoors). Covering up completely when outside...

Re: Biggest Inspiration?

My Latin teacher, decades ago. He taught me all about the Ancient Romans, which inspired me to learn the language of course, but also it inspired me to read a lot of history, and understand how our...

Re: Some common sense by a judge.

It will be interesting to see how the silly woman handles being forced to be normal. Maybe it will do her good, and show her that the sky doesn't fall in when she unmasks herself.

Re: Why you shouldn't vote for Gillard

I just went to vote - Labour of course. I've lived here 31 years and know the horrors of past right-wing governments.

Who could forget the Joh era here in Queensland? I was on Joh...

Re: Baby voices in a relationship

I'm from the North - they don't do baby talk there. In fact, when I was young, I would threaten violence to any lad who had the temerity to call me 'baby'.

This Tony Capstick clip had a few...

Re: Mark Latham - bright or boofhead?

He's neither bright nor boofhead - just a man who's had his day, and should go quietly to that no-man's land of leaders who failed.

I have no idea why he is doing this? Why doesn't his wife or...

Re: Should OZ ban the Burka

Against the legal ban, and against burqas and niqabs. Let popular contempt handle the situation, and common sense prevail in situations where the face needs to be seen.

Re: Should OZ ban the Burka

I despair - idiocy piled on idiocy.

Anyone can be an idiot, but to be an absolute nutter takes religion. Let's face it, walking around with the face covered up, or flapping around in a big blue...

Re: Private Healthcare v Medicare a straight answer needed

We are aged 65 and 66: I am in good health, my husband has recently had total knee replacements. The surgeon is a leader in his field and extremely good. The standard medicare system has worked for...

Re: Julia Gillard

Jut remembered summat not many people know. After my youngest was born, I was told it would kill me to have another baby, so my husband decided to have a vasectomy. He had to get a note from my GP...

Re: Irrational Hatreds

Actually I don't mind the funny/rude/irreverend ones like karked it and kicked the bucket. It is the sanctimonious expressions, or those implying they are somewhere else, not dead, that I hate.

Re: Irrational Hatreds

All the different ways of saying someone has died, rather than just saying - they've died.

They've passed over, passed on, passed, gone to a better place, been taken before their time....the list...

Re: Is it cheaper to be single?

It would be cheaper to be single if your partner spends too much of your money/is a smoker etc. But obviously sharing the rent, other bills and possibly a car makes for cheaper living.

However, an...

Re: Irrational Hatreds

You should write a sitcom about your workplace! Your experiences are a good advertisement for retirement.

Re: Should OZ ban the Burka

Oi, you lot: leave the Goodies alone - I loved them. I even had a cat named after a Goodies episode - Kitten Kong!!!

Re: Should OZ ban the Burka

That's a good way of looking at it!

I think covering the face up is very rude: they can see us but we can't see them. But why ban the thing? If someone is daft enough to go out looking like an...

Re: Watch out for religious nutters in QLD Schools

Yes, this was the experience of my two sons in Queensland catholic schools. They are now 28 and 31. We refused to send them to State schools as it was the Joh era, (Joh was an obnoxious, far right,...

Re: Instead of what foods you miss from the UK, what have you gained a love for in OZ

I miss going blackberrying and mushrooming. I don't care for wild places here - snakes and spiders put me off. In any case, I don't know any mushroom fields. and blackberries are a noxious weed and...

Re: Instead of what foods you miss from the UK, what have you gained a love for in OZ

Oh, I love avocados and also pumpkin soup. I never had them in England either. Avocados were a bit posh and hence expensive, and pumpkin was pig food.

Re: Instead of what foods you miss from the UK, what have you gained a love for in OZ

The first time I encountered non-English food was when I was 16, on the Yorkshire Lille Exchange from school, when I stayed 3 weeks with a French wine merchant's family. I loved it all, including the...

Hi Pam, Good luck with your pregnancy, and congratulations on your little Aussie-to-be.

I also learnt to drive while very pregnant with my second child (the first was born in Yorkshire). I...
