Re: POST IS IT SAFE

Ooo err… How many of us were thinking all the delay would be at the Spanish end?

As a matter of interest, the UK Signed For (Recorded Delivery) has no special treatment at all in carriage....

Re: Banks and FX - Solbank and Halifax?

Extremely useful information. Thanks.

So is moving money between Solbank € and £ accounts easy, and cost effective as regards the FX rate? I’d expect it to be easy, presumably using online...

Re: Virgin mediabox

With Virgin Media cable equipment the user never has ownership of the box, so you can’t take it with you. If you think you own it because you bought it, you don’t, as it’s ‘stolen goods’.

Re: Banks and FX - Solbank and Halifax?

Many thanks to everybody for your views on this. :D

Thanks for the clarification snikpoh, I’ll certainly look at the Cajas/the Caixa's. Are they region/town orientated? Or a nationwide chain?

Re: Banks and FX - Solbank and Halifax?

Thanks for the very quick response.

I’m not sure branch availability will be that important to us, as I hardly ever visit the UK branches of our banks.

I’m puzzled by your NO affiliation...

Banks and FX - Solbank and Halifax?

When we relocate we’ll be running a business in Spain, and I’m currently looking at opening an account with Spanish banks, Banco Halifax Hispania and Solbank (Banco Sabadell). Does anyone have...

Re: buyers beware - removal pitfulls

I’m just returning to BE now that we have our sale organised and are ready to move. Lo and behold within just a few posts from the top we have yet again this endless (it seems) problem of who to...

Re: Outgoings UK v Spain

Talking of prices, do the Spanish supermarkets have the same annoying practice as the UK supermarkets of raising and lowering prices quite drastically from one week to another?

I’m not just...

Re: Do you think the Spanish contempt for British people is unfair?

Mmm… Yes, it seems the OP has gone into hiding.

Well in that case: my experience bears no relation at all to what you describe. I’ve found the Spanish to be pleasant and helpful. Also,...

Re: Living in the sun in Spain.

I think there’s a certain type of Brit that loves to see failure or probable failure.

It justifies their ‘do sod all then you can’t fail’ attitude to life.

Re: Living in the sun in Spain.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Dawn and Rocco's A Place in Spain: Costa Chaos. That ran for a few weeks.

A wonderful 'How Not To' guide, but great entertainment!

We saw one about two months ago where the mature couple had been in Spain for a long time (15 years?) and the prog was about their last ditch effort at ‘yet another’ business. They chose doggie...

Re: Outgoings UK v Spain

In France and Spain I buy wine by standing well back in the wine aisle and seeing where the bulk of it lies, usually on pallets at one end. Move just a tad up on the price scale from the pallet and...

Having seen more than one thread like this, there is always someone decrying the majority verdict. I’d put it down to how determined the poster is to get good merchandise for good prices. In the UK...

Re: Outgoings UK v Spain

Well, Surrey Heath prices in the last few days:

1 iceberg lettuce £0.62
1 red pepper £0.50
1 green pepper £0.50
4 tomatoes £0.88
1 aubergene £0.78
1 corgette £0.28

So that’s £3.56...

Re: Bad Removal Experience - learn from my mistake

Re: UK banks – Catch 22

Hi Val. Is that 2 x 50,000 for a joint account?

If so then it's very similar to the UK.

Re: UK banks – Catch 22

Thanks Mitzyboy.

By ‘escape the bank risk in the UK’, are you inferring there’s no risk with Spanish banks?
