Very incorrect I'm afraid. In research, they are usually offered for 3 yrs at first and are routinely extended for a further two (very routine in fact). After this, it is common to switch to a H1B.

Well you can stay for upto 5 years on a J1 and if you do not have the HRR there is no reason why you cannot switch to an H1B later on.

Leave it on the driveway overnight to check for leaks before buying. I didnt and two days later found that my power steering rack had gone = $1000 in repairs straight away. A schoolboy error I know...
