Re: Partner wants to move but I don't

Gosh, you could be me five years ago. I don't know if it helps, but I'm going to share my experience with you.

So, first of all, my husband's family are in Australia and he'd never kept it a...

Re: RRV and tight timings

I think you're right - with a bit of additional leave, I could shorten my notice to two and a half months - so that would definitely help. I work for a University though and it is always really...

Re: RRV and tight timings

The link doesn't work for me but I have done a search for substantial ties and that turns up the scary prospect that a firm job offer and family (virtually all of my husband's family are out there)...

Re: RRV and tight timings

Thank you! Really useful info about the RRV too. The forms themselves I've read over so many times but it all seems so vague as to what exactly 'substantial ties' are that I'm never any the wiser. ...

Re: RRV and tight timings

I might be able to negotiate down my notice period a bit... but as long as we could get out there by the first week in Jan it would be okay. Just fingers and toes crossed for the job, not least...

Re: RRV and tight timings

Thanks for the advice. We moved to QLD without a job offer last time - and failed to get a job... ending up returning to the UK... which is why we've been reluctant to 'just move' again. Seems like...

RRV and tight timings

I think that I may be on the verge (touches wood!) of getting a job offer in QLD. We last lived there in April 2008 and have had permanent residency since mid-Jan 2007. What I'm not sure about is...

Re: Oz jobs from the UK

Thanks, Flea. It's useful to know if it's possible. If it's not possible to recruit off a phone interview, what happens then? Do they expect you to fly out to attend a face-to-face interview?? ...

Oz jobs from the UK

I'm not sure this is even the right forum, but... for those of you who've moved to Oz having got a job there from the UK... how did you do it?

We're thinking about moving back (Ping...

Re: So much done in the space of a week!

Wow, Sarah! You have been busy!!! It's seriously hectic settling back home, isn't it? Are you managing to have any time to just chill out a bit?

Sarah :)

Re: Moving back during recession????

To be honest, I think life is good for some people and it's bad for some people. In the four months since we've been back, we haven't found ourselves on the breadline - we've had work, found a much...

Re: finding schools on our return

Have a look at http://www.upmystreet.com/ - put in the place name you're thinking of looking at... then look at its neighbourhood profile. You can see all the schools in the area there and follow...

Re: Schools admissions process

I would book the flights - if you want to go back, then just sort out that date, don't worry about the school stuff - keep on ringing the education department to remind them you exist, have any...

Re: What's the first thing you do when you land in the UK?

My four year old wasn't sure either... but that was just because she was four and wasn't sure! She thinks that if we go to the beach here we're going to Australia. If we go to where we used to...

Re: would you return if

Yes. England is my home country. I love it. My family live a couple of hours drive away so we don't see them very often. The countryside I see every day. The sense of things being 'right' again,...

If you both want to leave then concentrate on working out how you can achieve that rather than worrying about who's visiting next year. We moved back and hubby was against it - and I wish that we...
