Re: melbourne primary school question

Hi, I think it's pretty unlikely that a state school would let her start. My daughter was 5 on 2nd April and is in Prep this year, she is one of the youngest and quite a few of her classmates were 6...

Re: Dentists in Australia

I'm getting root canal work done and a crown (eventually) on a tooth that was a problem back in the UK, I chose then to have it heavily filled rather than crowned - and the filling broke the day we...

Re: Transferring small amounts of money from Oz to UK via the internet

PMSL - I spoke to the same young kid I think! Quite insistent that 'it will work' when I was trying it there and then on the laptop and it most definitely wasn't working.

Someone else suggested...

Transferring small amounts of money from Oz to UK via the internet

Has anyone managed to do this? I've been trying to transfer about $400 from my Westpac account to my Abbey account in the UK and having a nightmare as it just won't recognise the bank/branch...

Re: Drugs in Melbourne

I work in the drug and alcohol field here in Melbourne, and used to in London a few years ago. I don't think it's any worse here - although heroin seems much more popular than in London (cocaine is...

Re: Pap Smear

Me neither, I was told that it was very unlikely to return as treatment is 99% successful but obviously they want to follow up.

Re: Pap Smear

Yes, me too - the being checked annually for 10 years thing - but I still remember reading that it's actually quite unlikely to come back after treatment - but it's reassuring to be checked I think...

Re: Pap Smear

Oh, you've reminded me I need to get one done. I had an abnormal one about 5 years ago and treatment - I hadn't realised it was as bad as it was until we had our visa medicals and I got my medical...

Re: moving to melbourne

I think that's manageable in Melbourne. It would depend how close you want to live to the CBD. $75k is a higher than average salary here.

We came over with a lot less than 100K gbp, my oh is in a...

Re: Got my first speeding ticket!!! (moaning thread)

Maybe, they don't stay on orange very long at all though do they - and he was only 0.9 seconds late - hardly any time at all. We'll pay up like I said but it does seem harsh. Making excuses for him...

Re: Got my first speeding ticket!!! (moaning thread)

Thought it was something like that, he thought the camera had got him but didn't think fine would be this excessive! As he said, if he'd braked sharply for the red light he would have ended up being...

Re: Got my first speeding ticket!!! (moaning thread)

My OH just received a notice tonight - $215 and 3 points for going through a red light - 0.9 seconds too late it seems.

He (we) know it was wrong and will pay up but that amount and number of...

Re: The Melbourne thread

Those areas are nice but housing is so much more expensive there! My OH has a long commute but we've chosen to live in Rowville which many consider too far out because you get so much more house for...

Re: Hong Kong anyone???

We booked a family room at one of the metropark hotels in Kowloon. It was ok - but only 3 single beds and there are 4 of us (children aged 6 & 3) so quite a lot of bed hopping for the 3 nights we...

Re: Your opinion on these areas to live please

There's been a settlement in Rowville for at least 100 years, I think it is quite well established and has good facilities. Parts of Narre Warren are fine too, not hoon land at all.

Although I can...

Re: Your opinion on these areas to live please

That definitely sounds like Rowville primary, they're just revamping the playground and a new pirate ship has gone up to replace the old one. My son is nearly 7, there isn't an Edmond in his class...

Re: Your opinion on these areas to live please

Hi, we're in Rowville and I really like it here. We headed here as my SIL lives here. The only downside is that there is no station, although I saw a poster in the library for a proposal for one in...

Re: Enrolling Kids into Aus Schools from UK

My son started school the week after we arrived here, I enrolled him when we arrived.

I guess it depends whether you're looking at state school or private, but if you live in the catchment area...

Re: Anyone emigrated to Oz without ever visted there?

We had never been to Oz before coming to Melbourne last November. No regrets about not doing a reccie - I don't think it would have helped at all as we would have been in a holiday frame of mind...

Re: medicals - high blood pressure...

I have what they call labile blood pressure i.e it can be all over the place. You don't necessarily have to be on meds for life - I was on them for 2 months after the birth of my son, and for 6...

Re: Melbourne School Fees

Dandenong itself isn't great but plenty of nice areas in commutable distance from there - we rent in Rowville which is about 10-15 minutes drive away from there. The school fees for my 6 year old...
