I think this may depend on the plan itself also. I think, from the research I did, I would have to really try hard to find a doctor that wasn't in-network with my HMO!

The PPO i was looking at had different percentages for in network as opposed to out of network (from what I can recall) and the difference was pretty large, so while there is some kind of coverage...

Not really, State Farm was one of the better options for newer immigrants and car insurance it seems, but I think it is just a case of getting lucky with whomever is your local broker/agent.
