American muissus, up the duff. Thought it would be best to let the pregnant woman stay in the environment she knows best.

...and the Freedomz of course.

The weather is a major pull for me. You won't find me ever complaining about the hot temperature, even when it reaches 115 here. I had enough miserable overcast days in England to last me a lifetime.

The other is the 'can do' attitude rather than constant complaining and reasons why you can't do something in England. That was my experience anyway.

Maybe the 2 things are linked.

Hey dek..we're neighbors...as someone who enjoys a hike in the drizzly Trossachs with a finish in a cosy pub, the weather here is hell with this unrelenting sun and heat. Every day is so boring weather wise.

Ah yes the "Freedoms"

Does this really have any practical, life changing, effect for people?

I personally always feel much freer in England than in America. England is just generally laid back, US is fundamentally coercive. Police everywhere, etc. maybe it's just me? I've never had a bad incident with the police in my small town, or elsewhere in the US. Village police, town police, Border Patrol, sheriff, state police, DEC Police, SUNY Police, all seem professional and generally non threatening. But there are a lot of police in America.

I can't take the heat - even worse now being 'of a certain age'.

Freedom - right - everything requires triplicate of a sheaf of badly-printed forms. And alcohol and boobs cannot be seen in public. (Bit of an exaggeration on the alcohol, it's just when they make you bag a six-pack to take back to your car).

There are three basic reasons, better weather, money (better job) and family (got married to an American).

Bigger house/property is also mentioned often. The US is nowhere near as crowded. But that's really a subset of family/money.

Plus the US is the largest developed English-speaking country in the world which is an obvious attraction, there's just more going on. More variety than the UK.

Depends on which line you cross. I think there's more general anti-social behaviour in the UK than the US, caused in part by laxer drinking laws. Yes I know you can go to shithole suburb of x big US city and get shot and buy drugs but you don't see people arguing about fences and barking dogs and stuff like that as much.

Someone pointed out to me that the really annoying crimes in society are things like littering, vandalism, loud noises at night, etc. And the UK has more of that. Or at least it seems to, because everyone is crammed together.
