Re: Help! My son is very unsettled.....

Hi Linz,
I wanted to reply as a sometime reader of these boards who moved here many years ago now and has much older children, but can still remember the worries.
There were certainly similar ages...

Re: Flights from Manchester to Sydney

Hi.
If your parents do decide to go via Singapore, you might like to be aware of the option of the Changi airport hotel for a stopover:

You don't even leave the airport (though...

Re: Having a baby in NSW - Any advice on pre/post maternity services?

Hi Sally.
If you want more information you might want to get in touch with your nearest branch of the Maternity Coalition - it's a bit like the NCT. They should be very clued up on what the options...

Re: schools

Hi. Here's a link with info for NSW on public selective schools:
http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/gotoschool/types/selectiveschools.php
These schools are public schools (in the Australian sense), so...

Re: Any tips on renewing UK passport whilst in UK??

I did this recently and it worked very well for me, but then I was within an easy journey of the London office. The only issue was that I could only book an appointment within a few weeks (2 or 4? -...

Sold a UK property since 2004?

I expect this is old news to most of you (certainly if still in the UK), but being out of the country for a few years now I'd missed the fact that the judgments about unfair UK bank fees included...

Re: Migraine Treatment in OZ

My GP didn't raise any issues with prescribing me Zomig in NSW - just checked my notes and took my blood pressure. I had my UK medical records that showed I had been prescribed it there. It costs me...

Re: age of children starting school?

Yes. And sometime the social needs don't sit easily with the educational needs (although NSW does have provision for enrichment/extension).

Many parents here say they want their child to be...

Re: age of children starting school?

Hi. Just be aware before you commit to a year group that, because of parental choice within the NSW system, depending on your area, your daughter may turn out to be, relative to others, younger than...

Re: Sydney - Location location location!!

My kids tell me it's "Blue Water High"

I think they use various beaches round here.

Re: Sydney - Location location location!!

I live in Avalon and have no direct experience of this. But there is petty vandalism/graffiti and I see the odd story in the local paper (maybe about once a year?) about police needing to reign in...

Re: How heavy is your childs school bag!?

I've heard many other parents bothered by this so you're not alone. Particularly when the kids also have to carry big musical instruments or extra sports stuff too.

The more organised the kid, the...

Re: Sydney - Location location location!!

Just to say... having lived here a couple of years, we too think Avalon is a great place for a family. We really like the primary school - yet to try the high school. It's a good spot for the kids to...

Re: Primary School

Hi.
A child can start school in Kindy in NSW if they turn 5 on or before 31 July in that coming school year.

But be aware that in some suburbs many parents keep their kids off school by a year if...

Re: Northern Beaches - Dee Why is not des res

I go through Dee Why regularly. The part these articles refer to is on two very busy roads. If you walk round that area, it feels very busy/urban/traffic ridden. These pavements don't feel to me like...

Re: Advice on current exchange rate please?

I expect by now the market will already have factored in a rise. It seems to be the unexpected things that make sudden movements. Northern Rock seemed to damage the pound - as did the London...

Re: Hello, we are new and moving to Sydney

This site is helpful (if you haven't already used it). The nearer the city you get on in the morning, the fuller a bus is likely to be. It also makes quite a difference whether you can easily walk to...

Re: Chances of upgrade??

I do see your point, but to be fair to the OP, it was her *doctor* who suggested the idea. She could be forgiven for imagining an upgrade when pregnant is a common event on a long-haul flight. Her...

Australian tablespoon measure (for cooks)

I just discovered that the Australian standard for a tablespoon is 20ml, instead of the 15ml that is used in the UK.

So now I just need to remember whether I'm using a UK recipe or an Australian...

Re: Chances of upgrade??

Hi Nic.
I have flown often with Singapore. They will sometimes do 'operational upgrades' when the flight is very full and moving people to the front frees up seats they can sell at the back. But...
