Re: Brighton/Eastbourne - nice areas?

Eastbourne is getting quite a modern vibe these but is still full of oldies. Don't rule out Lewes. It's not by the sea but very close and has a lovely atmosphere. You can get some amazing properties...

Re: To those who have moved back, whats it really like ?

Depends on the reasons you left for Australia in the first place. If you headed off because you were "escaping" from something in the UK, chances are it will return to haunt you when you come back....

Re: Condradicting Info. on Non EEA spouse to UK.

Think you have to be working or self employed. This is called the Singh Route and it is outlined more fully below (http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/ecg/eunationalsschemes/eeafamilypermit#22947085):

Re: Help! Please spend 1 minute to answer this question:

Take the money. Get a good reference and go look for a new job with your head held high. You know what a good job you did there and you can bet they'll miss you when you've gone.

Good luck

Re: Help! Please spend 1 minute to answer this question:

If the company is uk-based, they should be following uk best practice. This would usually involve seeing if you can be employed elsewhere in the organisation prior to redundancy. Also, have they made...

Re: Confused about kids school year placing

Our son had already started in class 1 in Australia the February we moved back in the May (meaning he only had one term of class one). Because he didn't go back into school in the UK until the...

Re: Exchanging Aussie licence for a Brit one???

I would just add that when I swapped mine over, with Australian motorcycling entitlement obtained in Perth, they put this on the licence too (with a little "70Aus" code next to it)

Re: Exchanging Aussie licence for a Brit one???

Make sure you tick the "Gibralter or other designated country" box at question 3. Australia is a designated country

Then you'll get the answer you were expecting

C.) Resign. If you are good enough to get a senior job in this company, you are certainly good enough to get a senior job in a company that treats its employees with respect and recognises that it...

Re: SPOUSE/CP ILE

I would just check that your husband's ESOL+Citizenship course still meets the standards now required. "Relevant progress" might be hard to establish, given he studied for a relatively short period...

Re: Arrived back in UK a week ago, everything seems crappy

This is probably the hardest time to move back from Australia to the UK. Everything seems grey, the cold goes through you like anything and most people have a permanent frown as the post-christmas...

Re: Moving to the UK from Perth for 2 Years

There aren't many 3d animation places in Perth, are there? (I can only think of John Cheese and Double G) but there are lots of post-prodcution and animation houses in London so he could probably get...

Re: Kents, Chess or ATO

I think the relatively low cost of LP's insurance, coupled with the relatively high excess (£500 iirc) makes it a good option for total loss, rather than cups and saucers. Given your whole life is...

Re: Kents, Chess or ATO

Our problem was that they were delivering to a rental so we didn't unwrap everything there and then (only about a 1/4 infact). Had we been moving to our permanent home, they would have unwrapped and...

Re: What had changed when you returned?

Retaining things over a short period time contributes to heritage over a longer period of time. That we still have all those medieval barns, quaint old country cottages, georgian townhouses,...

Re: Trip report – UK Christmas hols

Aussie retailers have enjoyed virtual monopolies in almost every sector for years. The end result is less choice for consumers and higher prices. If there was some way for online food retailers to do...

Re: And so it begins...Electrical goods?

We brought back almost everything. The Fisher & Peykel fridge and freezer work fine, so do all the power tools. Mac book pro just needed a new cable out of the power lead. Can't say about the router...

Re: Our moving back timescale - 3 months on

I think it helps not to think of things in absolutes. Leaving Aus and coming back to the UK felt right when we did it and feels even better now we're here and settled. But who knows where we will be...

Re: Our moving back timescale - 3 months on

We still call B&Q "Bunnings" (and crisps "chips"). It's hard to shake off those kind of things.

btw, if you can't wait for a DIY store, I can only imagine how you'll feel at being able to go to...
