Re: Taking a Mazda3 to the uk.

No. One phone call to Tesco and I was covered. This was four years ago, so things may have changed.

I think I paid about £500 for a year's cover (2.3l Atenza (Mazda6) SportWagon).

Re: Taking a Mazda3 to the uk.

I shipped a Mazda6 back to the UK four years ago.

To convert the speedo I think they just installed a conversion chip and put a sticker over the k of kph so it now says mph. No need for new...

Re: 18 months update - probably going back.

In my experience, it can often feel much easier being the one making "the sacrifice", rather than the one feeling guilty about causing other family members to be unhappy.

If I'm honest, I seem to...

Re: Do you ever get used to Aussie Christmases?

The sun always shines in Dorset!

It was a bit chilly, though, I have to say. I do miss the heat of Australia around that time of year.

Re: Do you ever get used to Aussie Christmases?

I took these in England on Christmas day last year.

Just look at those awful grey damp skies :)

Re: York / Cheltenham / Chelsford - any thoughts?

Cheltenham's High Street is pretty grim and depressing, as it happens.

Re: York / Cheltenham / Chelsford - any thoughts?

Tough choice between those two places. I always had relatives in York and loved visiting the place. Such an interesting place, packed with history and atmosphere. Friendly people, in my experience.

Re: Is it worth uprooting from what you know to take a chance on Austrialia ?

[QUOTE=BadgeIsBack;8884145]
Some people really do seem to want warmer weather and Australia offers an improvement in that department, wherever they go, make no mistake! All this 'convincing...

Re: Is it worth uprooting from what you know to take a chance on Austrialia ?

Are you being serious? Must be a very strange definition of winter.

The weather in SE England may not be reliably great, but the seven-month winter thing I keep reading about on here is clearly a...

Re: Whooping cough

I had whooping cough as an adult, and it was the worst thing I've ever had. There were a few times when I thought I was about to check out, as I simply could not breathe for what felt like...

Re: Never thought I would be posting on here.

Good luck with the move.
I also remember the days of PB and Dotty. Wonder how they're getting on these days.

Re: deciding on a location in England to live

Chippenham was on our short list before we moved back from Australia.

We went to have a look and liked what we saw. Quite busy and lively, train links, beautiful countryside around, and close to...

Re: Subiaco Primary School and Perth Modern Senior High School

I moved back to the UK a couple of years ago, and life does feel like a big competition at times, especially when it comes to getting your kids into good schools.

Re: Subiaco Primary School and Perth Modern Senior High School

I don't really mean degrees. I'm just thinking of parents who don't attach much importance to education and therefore don't encourage their children.

Most people posting on this site about...

Re: Subiaco Primary School and Perth Modern Senior High School

Speaking generally here, but perhaps there is a high proportion of people who don't value education, who attach more value to big houses and swimming pools, who've made a mess of their lives in the...

Re: Subiaco Primary School and Perth Modern Senior High School

Re: Subiaco Primary School and Perth Modern Senior High School

In my opinion, one of the main problems with schools in Perth is that this adage doesn't apply.

This seems to catch out a lot of people who move to Perth, think they are in a swanky suburb, and...

Re: Personal import of a car into Australia

The only insurer I found that would cover me was RAC. They had to see the car and do an inspection.

It was pretty straightforward. It didn't seem that expensive at the time, but I didn't really...

Re: Self defence classes for kids

You're probably right, but I stole the line from Frankie Boyle. I think the BBC had to apologize for it.:p

Going back to self defence, I'd say Krav Maga is probably about as realistic as it gets. ...

Re: My visit to the UK (got back today)

I think it's because there are many people who were in the same place at the same time and it's very hard to see how someone could have found the UK in general drab and gray during the last few weeks...

Re: Chinese money drives up house prices

Yes, I exaggerate to make a point. But it's essentially true.

I never said Australian prices were high relative to the UK. House prices in the UK are still completely insane in most decent areas,...

Re: Chinese money drives up house prices

A bit disingenuous.

You know very well that the issue is not about getting a beach house or not.

It's more a case of people aspiring to a house that's not a semi-derelict dump in a far-flung,...
