Re: Coping with cats

On the first point, the info I have received is that a cat that roams, and can dump anywhere it likes, will not be too good at adhering to the litter box when inside. I don't know if it's true. It's...

Re: Coping with cats

Indoor-only cats are very common. Lots of my neighbours have them. One has outdoor cats. They are not popular. Our kitten is an indoor cat. It seems that the decision has to be made from the word go....

Re: Calling All future fellow-Montrealers - Opinions and Experiences appreciated!

-15 isn't particularly cold by Montreal standards. You do get used to the cold, though.

I often go through Montreal but rarely venture into the centre. As it happens, I was there yesterday, for a...

Re: Kitchen cabinets - advice needed (installation)

Take your time. On 3/4" wood the top of the Forstner should about 1/8 proud.

The depth is slightly more important than the radius. Just a bit;)

You can always driil more. You can't drill less.

Re: Kitchen cabinets - advice needed (installation)

Re: Kitchen cabinets - advice needed (installation)

I don't buy cheap toys any more. I have learned not to.

I've got all the bits. Hole saws, Fostner bit and a hole cutter. I used the last one when I made my wine rack. I will not use it freehand...

Re: Kitchen cabinets - advice needed (installation)

Sound advice but I've gone one better. I asked my neighbour. He's done it before. I now know what to do. His drill press is also in my garage.

I particularly like the last bit. I will be able to...

Re: relationship help

Sound advice, that man.

A pointless shag can do wonders to mend a broken heart.

Re: Kitchen cabinets - advice needed (installation)

I can fiddle around with practice bits for ever. God knows I've done that enough times. I'd just rather know the 'proper' and quick way to do it.

Re: Kitchen cabinets - advice needed (installation)

Done that yesterday. Still none the wiser. It's probably a no-brainer for someone who knows what they are doing.

I note that one of my opposite neighbours has got some men in for a carpentry job....

Kitchen cabinets - advice needed (installation)

We had an insurance job done a while ago, following a water leak in the kitchen that knackered part of the basement. The guy sent in to do the repairs is also a cabinet maker. We took the opportunity...

Re: Reccomend an area

That and the fact that north Americans are wedded to their cars. My neighbours drive to the corner store. I get there quicker on foot.

Years ago, before I moved to Canada, I was at a meeting and...

Re: Canadian Citizenship Fees

Not sure about that. I suspect that most Ottawans' experience of the dark side is limited to bits of south Hull and a few bits of Gatineau-Gatineau that can truly be described as dumps. Once you get...

Re: Canadian Citizenship Fees

And before you start asking:

a) the application process is the easiest bit of paperwork you will have had so far in relation to your immigrant status

b) the test is monumentally easy, except...

Re: Reccomend an area

No, I don't live in TO but I do live somewhere with a good bus service, which also serves Ottawa. Plus, I don't need a car to work and am prepared to walk further than North Americans.

Re: Reccomend an area

If you don't drive, you will not be able to live somwehere where there is no public transport, not unless you live in the middle of a small town. Some small communities near big cities may well have...

Re: Flexible Return Flights

Flexible tickets are most certainly available. They can be rather costly. It's even possible to change your dates with cheapos. That can also cost a bit.

I'm very familiar with buying tickets...

Re: French

NB is very mixed when it comes to language, despite being constitutionally bilingual. Some places, like Dieppe, are almost wholly franco while others, like Riverview, are predominantly anglo.
