The "Welcome to the US" handbook certainly says you must carry it all times (page 8). not sure about surrendering it to the police (but I would think not, its yours after all).

You could go to Canada. I was advised against by my immigration attorney as the original visa wasn't issued there so they apparently have to check with...

I came over on VWP back in 2005 before my H1B started. Had no issues at all. Didn't know about that 90 day rule. I'd need to go digging to see when we had the embassy appointments back then:confused:

yup, no degree here but all my past experience (including employers letters) were sent to a third party who produced an 'equivalency' document that was submitted with the original H1B application...

or in my case wait 15 days and then discover that your still not in the system (3rd party contractors fault apparently). Took about 5 weeks from arriving to get SSN :ohmy:

no reason why its not possible. I was in a similar boat when I got approached 7 years ago. All of my qualifications (no degree) and work experience/background (17 years) were presented to a professor...

Last time I checked Edinburgh was a non-starter (think they only do stuff for US citizens).

yup, been keeping an eye on this one. Its quite funny to see the reaction over on some of the other forums where people from India/China are welcoming it as they say the current system is skewed in...
