Re: Selling A house In The UK ????

Yes, and remember that to the estate agent, they would probably favour getting a quick sale at a lower price than have it go on for months and perhaps never sell, or lose the client. Under valuing...

Re: anyone know a cheap place for steel wheel rims vancouver

Also consider going down to the US. Their retail is way less than Canada's so I imagine their 'used' or 'trade-in' rates are proportionally lower.

Cool Strength of the Loonie

Firstly let me say that I'd pleased to see the Loonie giving the US imitation a good battering, and being on this side of the pond with most of my equity here with me, the pound sterling too. At the...

Re: Let's face it... Britain isn't so bad over all

I should clarify that I'm absolutely NOT against multiculturism. Britain and Canada are made up of this. I am against welcoming multitudes of other cultures that fundamentally are commanded to...

Re: Let's face it... Britain isn't so bad over all

Actually I'm regarded as highly employable in Canada. The fact that I've been out of work for 6 months is that I've had a family catastrophe to deal with, for which I don't hold Canada responsible of...

Re: Let's face it... Britain isn't so bad over all

Wow - good to see so much agreement. I was half expecting to enter into petty arguments with people, and to be called all kinds of things under the sun (not least a racist) for expressing my views....

Let's face it... Britain isn't so bad over all

One thing that struck me about people who emigrate from Britain, is the incredibly high proportion who are abandoning their culture and lifestyle, burning their bridges with British shores, slating...

Re: Smacked with a Tax if Canadian house sells but we're not here - HELP!!

Yep Canada has all the taxes of any other country with few of the benefits. Consider it a final token of goodwill from this high taxation loonie left country. Hopefully you've moved to somewhere more...

Re: Applying for and getting a job in the UK while in Canada

I had an interview some years ago when I was considering a move back and this was by telephone. We were at loggerheads as the company wanted to meet me in person and couldn't understand why I didn't...

Re: Why do they do this?

You lot are a tough crowd. I'm not doing stand up in this forum again.

It was not meant to be a stupid question. I'm genuinely curious as to whether there's a reason, or if it's just a habit with...

Re: Why do they do this?

Thank you for your response. My question was more based on my interest with the evolution of languages and dialect. Some responses have been unhelpful, along the lines of "well if you don't like it,...

Why do they do this?

Why do Canadians insist on starting sentences with the word 'So...' ? I just don't get it. Is it just crazy misuse of English (as it seems) or does it have an alternate meaning here?

Re: I hate it when people ask this

I'm steering that way although I need to get some income. The West Coast lack of urgency doesn't help matters. I don't think people / employers / companies appreciate that we need to earn money....

Re: I hate it when people ask this

Too true! When I lost my first job in Canada I also lost many people who I'd developed friendships with. These are people that, as their manager, i'd really helped with their work and personal lives....

Re: I hate it when people ask this

Frustrating thing is some of the positions I applied for were pulled by the hiring manager. It makes 100% difference ignoring people because the position has vanished, and ignoring them because they...

Re: survey on house - do I tell them about Canada?

Nope. It's far more likely to be used against you by the buyer or the agent. I had this exact situation. They waited for me to emigrate then wasted my time for 3 months before weaseling out. I...

Re: TEKsystems - A good recruitment agency ?

I hope so too and have everything crossed for you. Have you been interviewed for a specific role yet or just optimistic?

I've had less luck with agencies. I've always been in a high employment...

Re: What's Stevenage like to live?

Thank you for all the comments. i think I'm going to heed all the good advice. Nobody has said yeah it's really a fine place to live. Many people have used strong language to describe the place....

Re: What's Stevenage like?

Wow thanks so much for the responses. I was also checking out Hitchin and that's definitely a strong possibility. Most of the places in Stevenage I was scoping are right on the edge of town and...

Re: I hate it when people ask this

Hi,

I feel the need to respond. I realize that I've not met every Canadian and that my observations are limited to those I have met but I find the culture I'm observing is cold, unsympathetic and...

Re: I hate it when people ask this

Wow you have a great memory about my job loss a few years ago. I took it really personally, and the way it was handled by my boss was criminal. I subsequently discovered the reason why (company was...

Re: What's Stevenage like?

Yeah this more or less sums up my understanding. One of SVG key strengths is commuter time is really low and there's plenty of choice of property, almost all on the outskirts, mostly north of town....

Re: Missing the UK?

I think we're in agreement over this. But that's the point of having an objective perspective is to consider other people's reasons and form your own.

The danger, however, in just looking at the...

What's Stevenage like?

Firstly this is being posted here because we need advice on an area to live which many here may know really well. This is also posted in the Moving Back forum for obvious reasons, and as we're living...
