anyone know a cheap place for steel wheel rims vancouver
Hi All,
I've tried google but no luck, and don't want to do thro' a dealership.$$$
Anyone know a place in 'Vancouver area', good for cheaper steel wheel rims, in particular for an '08 mustang.
Just in case we get snow again this year ..
Cheers
Jerry

Have you thought about asking your dealership if they have any takeoff rims hidden in their parts dept?
Reason I say that is because when someone buys a new vehicle sometimes they want to upgrade the rims - so the ones that have come off go into inventory. Either that or just someone buying a new set will not want the old ones. Its worth asking - also doesn't have to be just a Ford dealer, get your bolt pattern, spacing and rim size and call around all the dealers. Our alloys (I work for a GM Chev dealer) go for around $75 to $150 per rim steels a lot cheaper.
Nothing has to be super spectacular for winter.

Crappy Tire, Walmart, etc. - I would have thought there would be no end of such places

Breakers yard....mustangs have not changed much over the years, you should be able to pick up some wheels the right size and bolt pattern for not too much if you call around.

I'm sure some folk on East Hastings could oblige.

Junkyard, tire shop, your local mechanic... any of these should be able to scare up some steel rims.

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies, hadn't thought of the scrappies, must find out where they are.
I tried the dealers, reminded them four times so far, can't get any quote.. hence looking elsewhere, the dealer is our local mechanic due to warranty.
don't want to try hasting just in case the current set of alloys disappear...and we get a free set of house bricks..
cheers

Also consider going down to the US. Their retail is way less than Canada's so I imagine their 'used' or 'trade-in' rates are proportionally lower.

Have you tried tiretrends? They are local so you can collect and save postage.

Sorry to sound dense . . my Mazda 3 has 17" wheels (tyres?) the chap at canadian tyre or was it costco - , ,well whatever, said it would be cheaper to get 4 full set of smaller ones for winter than 17" winter tyres - ??? is this true?
whayt I mean is - will I need new steel rims things? I know if I walk in the shop / dealers, I am gonna get shafted -so come one hit me with it now and explain it all . . . .

Just have a look at ads for tires and you'll see that they often don't even quote prices for 17".

Yes. 17" wheels are more expensive than the standard. I have a Mazda 6 with 17" wheels. The original tires were Michelin and they last only 40,000 Ks. I was not amused. Even less so when they quoted me $304 a tire for replacements ! I ended up with Goodyear @ $180 a pop.

Yes, I believe it is and it is likely the least expensive way. The only thing is that it will have some effect, maybe only small, on the odometer reading and the speedo. I have never had winter tires and at the moment I am getting ready to hit the road for my annual trek to Yuma, Az, away from the snow and ice until April !
