Re: 4 days in and feel like a fish out of water

Had a lie in then hey? Honestly 6 am is not early here. I'm up before 5 to take son to rowing. Welcome to Brissie. Sorry, we're on the South Side. My sons are 20 and 15 and really enjoy it here....

Re: Fixed Speed Cameras in Brisbane - Good or Bad?

I approve of the one on the Story Bridge. It is just so scary driving over there with the speed that people go. You have to keep up with them or face having an accident.

Re: 5 weeks in Melbourne...wants to give up

I too came out on my own with OH and kids back in the UK for months. It is hard and it is lonely but try to think of it all in preparation for when they come. Discover places to take them and imagine...

Re: QUEENSLAND UNI

No worries. You just take the 3 best results, in this case 3 Cs. That equates to 85 points which is an OP of 4. That would get her in just about most courses.

Glad my son doesn't go into...

Re: QUEENSLAND UNI

Deferment is quite common as lots of kids decide to do a gap year. Should be no problem. The university just reserves a place for you.

If you look at my previous post level 8 is really very...

OK, some further information.
There doesn't seem to be a web link to the conversions but I got the admissions office to send me the paper they work from. Here is an extract.

Re: QUEENSLAND UNI

OK, Well UQ is the best one - not that I'm biased or anything!
No. 1 point - see if you can accept a deferred place. My son was offered Durham and he deferred for 12 months. then when he was here...

Re: school socks

My son's school (state school) are strict on uniform and you have to buy the school socks. They are grey knee-length with the school colours round the top so plain grey would not do. For soccer it...

Re: Pomms/Aussies Obsessed By Property

All I can say is I hated, hated, hated renting. I hated being beholden to an agent who could come round at hardly any notice, sometimes no notice, who you could never contact by phone, who fought you...

Re: citizenship, kids soon to be in university and HECS (complicated questions)

I have a son in 2nd year engineering. As PR we have to pay his domestic fees up front but only a semester at a time, i.e., twice a year, so you don't have to pay $30k. A semester for us is about...

Re: 1770/Agnes Water....anyone there?

Bumping this up for you.
We were there for the first week in July. Very beautiful but not a lot to do if you're not into boating or fishing. Had a lovely trip out to Lady Musgrave Island.

Re: National insurance!

Yes and No. When it pays out in 10, 12, 15 years time or whenever then you will get the same amount as every other pensioner in the UK gets. Then after that it isn't increased in line with inflation.

Re: what to ship and not ship to oz?

Bring your Dyson vacuum cleaner as they are very good at spares and repairs here. However I haven't seen the Dyson washing machine here so repairs might be a problem.
Don't bring wardrobes or stuff...

Re: I'm off to Brizy on monday (craping myself)

Good luck with it all. Doctors and dentists you just go to when you need to here. You don't need to register with a particular one so don't rush into that. I came out on my own too with kids arriving...

Re: Who else has been in Oz 2 years and 5 days?

Me too, well arrived 1 July 2005, so I think that's the same date. Get that citizenship quick before they insist on a test and the fee goes up from $120 to $240.
