Haven't tried it with HMRC, but Wise will give you a UK sort code and account number, and they seem to accept direct debits: https://wise.com/help/articles/2977956/how-do-i-set-up-direct-debits

Probably only worthwhile for some niche cases, but you do have the option of adding a "certificate of entitlement" to your non-UK passport, though it's much more expensive (£388) than an actual UK...

If your old SIN begins with a 9 you definitely need to update it.

In that case you'll probably also need to create a new CRA web account, assuming you have one, which they don't make very obvious....

Get the UK one if you can.

It's harder for sure, but it's convertible to more countries, and it lasts into your 70s with just a 10-year renewal for the photo card.

If you get the Canadian one...

You can send a domestic wire, but it's not cheap. Generally only worthwhile for large amounts, and may require an in-person visit to your branch, depending on whom you bank with.
