Re: Costs of electric hot water heating vs solar

We have a gas instant water heater - estate has underground tanks feeding each house. If we didn't have that I would choose a cylinder like you're considering.
For simplicity a termoacumuludor...

Re: Thinking of Buying Golf Villa

Just on the rental point, we've had our PT house for over a year now and through a good management company we're getting a decent chunk taken off running costs/mortgage etc however I would agree with...

Re: Pesky seagulls

We have recently got an owl. About 25 euros from Inova. I've stuck a length of plastic waste pipe up his bum and slotted him into a downpipe on the roof terrace. He was ok about it after I explained...

Re: Furniture delivery costs/companies from Uk and Ireland

We've also used Algarve Removals via recommendation. First two big loads were collected from our UK address then delivered to Portuguese address, but since then smaller stuff bought online has been...

Re: Viewing properties advice wanted

Good advice already, especially from MrBife - my thoughts exactly. Only Algarve experience here but it may apply Countrywide (see what I did there?).

Properties are advertised by multiple agents...

Re: RightByTheSea recommendations ??? Sound of the Waves ?? Bliss !

I looked : there you go : 3 bed Quarteira apartment, front line to the sea, a snip at 740,000 euros. Ouch. Or a 2 bedder at 460k - still hugely expensive.....

Re: RightByTheSea recommendations ??? Sound of the Waves ?? Bliss !

My twopenneth (cents?) would be west coast. Bigger waves = more noise = sound from the sea further and cheaper from the coastline. And maybe as close to sea level as poss - no cliffs - they could...

Re: Apartment Purchase Extra Costs and Monthly Bills

Purchase costs look right, worth bearing in mind you may want to get portuguese wills thrown into the deal too.
3 bed house here, we have a handle on costs and managers in place but haven't finished...

Re: How do real estate agents work in Portugal?

I have lots of warning alarms going off in my head reading that. If you read a few similar threads on here it's advised that the lawyer and agent should be separate, ideally complete strangers, to...

Re: How do real estate agents work in Portugal?

Very fair points, and I'd generally agree about the british business aspect I think, but the whole property system seems like the wild west compared to the UK. UK agents can't use flowery language,...

Re: How do real estate agents work in Portugal?

We also used Rightmove as we’re English and that’s what I’m used to. Meravista works but it’s not great. We were told agents don’t show locations because other agents will then approach...

Re: Cheapest way to move extra baggage to PT.

Worth knowing - thank you. We’ve used Algarve removals for general “stuff” at approx £100/cubic metre plus vat so general shipping companies could also be a (slower!) option.

Re: British & Irish TV Installation

Thank you Peter that's very helpful.
We're going to be renting the house to holidaymakers when we're not using it so I'm thinking the laptop/PC is a no-go.
It's probably a dumb question but would...

I do love this forum.
Peterfc - may I ask what else I would need for watching TV via the britishtvclub?
We now have internet from NOWO with a box that provides wifi and 90-odd channels, mostly...

Re: Western Algarve - painter (walls, not artist) required

Recommendations from ecstatic customers whose properties have been transformed would be great.
To save the mods some work, please don't post if it'd be you holding the brush.

Western Algarve - painter (walls, not artist) required

Hi, we need a painter in Lagos!
Jetwash walls, a few crack repairs, prime the bare bits, 2 coats of decent exterior paint - does anybody have any recommendations for tradesmen?

Re: Property rental confusion

I think that's correct - the Alojamento Local licence for touristic stuff only allows a certain length of let - hence the 6 months max.
Not sure what licence you'd need for long term - but if a...
