Pretty sure UK DTV is broadcast on 8MHz Rf channels in UHF band but Australian DTV uses 7MHz RF channels and uses VHF and UHF bands. Some tv's might cover all scenarios, some might not.

If you're buying any new telly watch out for ones that say HD ready or compatible. They sometimes say this and all they mean is they have a HDMI interface (connector) but they aren't able to show HD...

make sure you are not connecting into the tv via the aerial socket. You need to go in through AV connector (either scart or Phono/rca)
