Re: Delayed Green Card

Thanks, and thanks for all the helpful advice. It's an IR-1. My wife's address was never changed. Maybe that's why the GC was sent there. It wasn't a problem for us, I just found it strange that...

Re: Delayed Green Card

To update this thread, I obtained an InfoPass appointment (this was back in October). The official there couldn't find any problems with my application, or explanation for why the GC was taking so...

Re: Delayed Green Card

Thanks both. I paid the GC production fee at the time of entry I believe, although that was nearly a year ago.
The egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/ seems to confirm this:
"On September 30, 2017, we...

Delayed Green Card

Hello all,

I applied for and obtained an IR-1 visa last year. Since October 2017 I've been living and working in the US (Maryland). However, despite USCIS having received my visa fee back on Sep...

Re: Plastic green card mail time?

FYI the physical green card can take a while too- I entered the US mid October 2017. Still no green card. The fee payment etc is all fine. No explanation. Just bad luck, I suppose. As long as it gets...

Re: IR-1 POE question - going through POE with USC children

I entered using an IR1 at Dulles (IAD) in October last year (2017). No secondary. A few minutes working out which queue my USC spouse and I should be in, then a few minutes longer as it was the...

Re: Annual leave / vacation time US

My new company here in the US has that policy (unlimited paid time off). I don't think it leads to people taking much more vacation than they would otherwise, as there's no obligation for the company...

Re: POE experience on IR-1 visa at JFK Terminal 7, 5th December 2017

For what it's worth, I paid the fee at the end of Sep 2017 (30th), entered the US on the 7th October, and haven't yet received the physical green card. It still seems to be within the 120 day...

Re: Taking dog to US

I have never heard of Emotional Support Animals.
We moved our dog over late last year, for around £1,500. This included vet check-up, collection from our door in the UK, overnight stay pre-flight...

Re: Skiing in Colorado

From the US skiing I've done (Jackson Hole, Breckenridge, Vail, Park City, Deer Valley), Park City in Utah was the best- great powder and the the far right Super Condor Express lift plus back down...

Re: Skiing near Washington DC

Thanks all, for the advice. There certainly seem to be a few single day options to try, when there's been a big snowfall.

I think we'll try Wisp (Deep Creek Lake, MD). Not expecting spectacular...

Re: Drivers License MO

You can usually drive for at least a month or two on your foreign license. If you so wish, you should be able to buy a car, take out your own insurance (required if you buy a car!) and drive around...

Re: Drivers License MO

Do you already have a non-US license?
If so, you can get insurance (be added to your girlfriend's insurance).

Cool Skiing near Washington DC

Evening all,

Inspired by Brandy07's thread, I'd appreciate recommendations for ski resorts close to DC (3 or 4 hours driving), for a couple of days skiing this Feb. We'll be four adults and one...

Re: Building credit

I moved over in November, for a job, and bought a house immediately. A couple of mortgage brokers would sort out a loan without any US credit record, relying on UK documentation. However these would...

Best bread I've found in the US is at Great Harvest:

Re: UK to US or US to UK?

If part of the question is whether you'd be better off heading towards the US or the UK, I can easily answer: the US.
I say this as a Brit married to a USC, and having experienced immigration in...

Re: Starting credit history in the US in 2017

Hi KingwoodBrit,

If you're in a rush to boost your credit score once you get your SSN, it may be worth asking to be added as an authorized user to the credit cards of friends or family. (Or pay a...

Re: Travelling on VWP whilst having an unused IR-1

Did this work out ok in the end?
I.e. no problem travelling on a VWP, with an unactivated IR-1 in your passport?

I hope and assume so, just curious to know.

Re: MSE equivalent in the US?

As you say, many sites are both 1) making money from referrals and 2) not transparent about how they are reimbursed or who controls them. Not a good combination for the consumer. (Of course I have no...

Re: Thank you - I made it!

Haha, fingers-crossed, but should be no problem. For what it's worth, at IAD we were directed to the non-USC line (I think- unless all the USC just used the automated machines), which took an age....

Re: Thank you - I made it!

I activated my IR-1 earlier this month.
POE: IAD (DC-Dulles).
No questions at all, which was surprising, as I've had routine questions entering the US on a visa waiver as a tourist. My other half,...
