Default Plastic green card mail time?

Hello,

Just a quick question about timeline for plastic green card to arrive. My wife got her SS# within 10 days of landing in Florida but no green card yet. We did pay before we left the UK on March 18th.

Thanks in advance.

Could be several months, I think. She has proof of her status in the 1 year endorsement in her passport, so no worries.

Mine arrived a month after entry into the US though this can vary based on demand etc.

You can track progress using this site. https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

The status should should be payment recieved, then approved then under production (or something similar), then produced/posted.

My case was stuck at payment received for about 3 weeks then went through the other steps in about a week.

As Rene mentioned she has proof on her passport which is valid for a year.

I was wondering if your wife’s GC arrived yet? I entered the US on April 4th and also got the SS# within 10 days. Like you said, no rush but since I entered after your wife, I thought I’d ask anyway.

Thank you for updating your inquiry post, AndyMan74.

In that way, others with a similar question will be able to judge somewhat by your response.

I didn't pay the green card immigrant fee until after I had entered the US... Does anyone know what sort of timeline I can expect for receiving my green card? Does it make a difference that I didn't pay before entering the US?

Here's the timeline so far:
  • 22nd April 2018 - entered US with immigrant visa in passport
  • 1st May 2018 - received SSN
  • 8h May 2018 - paid immigrant fee

I've read that you can check your green card status on the USCIS website, but when I try that it doesn't say anything about my green card, it just says the following:

On July 11, 2017, we sent your case, Receipt Number xxxxxxxx, to the Department of State for visa processing. You can find general information on Consular Processing by visiting our website at www.uscis.gov . The website will provide information on what to do next, who to contact, and how to inform us of any changes in your situation or address.

Is this normal? I'm a little worried that my green card may not be being processed... does anyone have any advice on this?

I seem to recall a totally useless 'update' message whilst waiting for mine, which actually arrived long before the advised time.

you can expect your plastic green card to arrive before the 1- year I-551 endorsement in your passport.

Thanks, I just managed to speak to someone at USCIS and they confirmed that the card is being processed as per the normal 120 day period - so it seems that I didn't throw things off with my late payment of the immigrant fee.

FYI the physical green card can take a while too- I entered the US mid October 2017. Still no green card. The fee payment etc is all fine. No explanation. Just bad luck, I suppose. As long as it gets to me within the 12 months, it's not a problem.

If you think that's bad and you're getting a two year card just wait until you come to remove conditions for a new ten year card, they are almost guaranteed not to turn up before twelve months is out.
Presumably it's a case of heading down to your local USCIS field office and having them restamp your passport if there is no card within twelve months - I believe that's the case for ROC's, although my N400 will be winging it's way to them in about two months which tends to speed up the issuing of the ten year card...
