Is there an equivalent to Martin Lewis's Money-Saving Expert website in the US?
I.e. somewhere that gives independent advice and reviews on personal finance products and options (banking, insurance etc).

Thanks Jack. That does look like a useful site.

It depends exactly what you're after. There are quite a few more focused sites that are often less independent, making money through affiliate links, and sometimes through paid articles. And these sites themselves are often more focused on making money, things like churning credit card offers, than on reviewing the service provided.

As you say, many sites are both 1) making money from referrals and 2) not transparent about how they are reimbursed or who controls them. Not a good combination for the consumer. (Of course I have no issue with sites making money!)
This question was asked some years ago too. It seems the answer is still 'no', with the possible exception of nerdwallet, mentioned above.
