Re: Decent Apartments on Island

Mamsha al Saadiyat looks really nice, if I was in a similar position to you, that's where I'd be going.

Re: Which bank account in Abu Dhabi

If you live in Abu Dhabi, ADCB is the best bank by far, it's not even close.

Re: Job offer in Dubai for my wife, help please.

Sounds like the CFO is being a coward and is blaming HR. If anyone is talking to Deloitte about PE's and tax exposure, it's him, not HR.

Re: Next UK travel review date

Seemingly you can get it as long as you made your appointment for Pfizer before they changed the rules. I got my 1st Pfizer dose yesterday having had my 2nd Sinopharm dose in February. That seems to...

Re: Summer travel

No but you have more choices of airports (Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen) than you do with England (Heathrow and Birmingham).

Re: Summer travel

I think we're just going to go for the hotel quarantine as I don't think I can get a Schengen visa for my wife. We're relocating back after losing my job and really can't be bothered with all the...

Re: Paying rent in Dubai in cash

I've made all rent payments by bank transfer last couple of years, mostly because both the landlord and I got fed up with my cheques being returned because the signatures didn't "match".

Re: Living in Dubai with kids

No experience, but generally I'd avoid any educational establishment that sounds more like a coffee shop than a school.

Re: Living in Dubai with kids

Extra-curricular activities are almost always in the range of AED 80-100 per class or per hour. Basically, budget AED 3000 per activity per kid for a year.

Re: British Primary School in Abu Dhabi

Also worth considering Raha International School if your place of work is at the airport end of town, it's more an IB school than pure British curriculum but it's very good and the fees are...

Re: Opinion on AD salary package

2 big parks in Reem, there's a beach area too I think. There will soon by a massive mall with indoor ski slope. Every apartment block will have its own pool.

Utility bills for villas are much...

Re: Opinion on AD salary package

Reem Island is about a 10/15 minute drive to any corner of the main Abu Dhabi "island", a commute to central Abu Dhabi is a piece of cake. A 3 bedroom apartment there will be more than adequate and...

Re: Foreign firms must have HQ in KSA to get KSA gov. contracts

I'm sure there will be ways around it. My last 2 employers were based in Free Zones in Dubai and opened "mainland" offices in Abu Dhabi to be able to win projects directly from ADNOC, I assume this...

Re: "chiller free" villas -- how can that be?

That's what I was trying to say, no chilled water, just the unit on your roof whirring away.

Re: "chiller free" villas -- how can that be?

Free chiller just means you don't pay cooled water charges to a 3rd party. You'll still pay the electricity cost to DEWA. It doesn't mean you don't pay for AC. There will be an AC unit on the roof...

Re: British School in AbuDhabi

To be honest, I've never heard that. In fact, I think it's mostly the opposite, local language/culture studies seem to be tacked on as a box ticking exercise in most of the ex-pat focused schools.

Re: Stay in DXB or Move back to London

Working with an International Bank should give you plenty of scope to re-locate to London with the same employer? Unless Brexit has already buggered that?

Re: Where to live Dubai - travel times

Few problems with that are that Healthcare City is on Green Metro line meaning you'd need to swap trains at Burjuman which I assume would be packed every morning/evening, there's only one Metro...

Re: Where to live Dubai - travel times

Have a look at The Villa, it's near Silicon Oasis and you'll have an easy 20-ish minute drive along E66 to Healthcare City. That was going to be my go-to when I was considering a job in Sharjah....

Re: Potential Job in Ruwais Area

Salary looks fine.

Ruwais is not so fine for a single westerner. I suspect you'll be doing your golf/pub/eating out/Tindering during your inevitable trip to Abu Dhabi every single weekend.

I...

Re: Dubai Villa Prices

I'm no expert (but when has that ever stopped anyone) but usually there's a lag between a drop in rental price and a corresponding drop in property value.

Rents are still dropping all over the...
