Your video will work, but for playback of your UK tapes only. You can pay to get a tuner installed (different broadcast system), or buy a new one to record from NZ TV. VCRs are about the same price...

Also (if you have one) you will need to get your DVD player chipped to accept Region 4 DVDs. My Sony player cost only $40 to chip in Auckland.

We have managed to set an account with ASB from the UK. We didn't need any IRD numbers, although they did ask us for copies of our passports, visas and some current utility bills and a recent bank...
