Re: Possible 2 year secondment to Toronto

Lots of good stuff to think about there!
I'll throw in an opinion/thoughts on a couple of things...

Turning 16 this year means Grade 10 right now, and starting Grade 11 in September. Grade 11 and...

Re: Bankers Draft without Canadian Bank Account

On a visit to Canada, before moving here, I opened an account at CIBC. All I needed was my UK passport and/or UK Driving license. The lady in the bank was surprised, but that was all the website...

Re: Orthodontic costs in Ontario

Circa $5k in Ontario too, although quotes did vary. For us it was much cheaper to pay up-front than to do the monthly options, although I suppose you have to be sure you won't be moving away...

Re: Waiting for CIC to get in touch regarding time outside Canada

Some options other than the contact form:

* Give the call centre a ring (doesn't bother the actual officers dealing with your case but they might tell you if you missed any info)
* ATIP...

Re: Bringing Dog to canada - final clarifications

A quick tip for dog moving that I remember... bring a bit of cord/thin-rope when you fly. You can tie two trolleys together which permits simple movement of an Extra Large crate in an airport!

Re: Sending parcels from Ontario to England

We shipped something this week, and discovered that parcels were 50% off at Purolator right now. It actually worked out cheaper than Canada post.
Unusual I grant you, but worth giving them a call...

Re: Shipping company is driving me mad! Please help!

We went with Crown for the shipping, and Letton Percival for the insurance. Worked out well, but as I say - had to knock the price down some.

Re: Shipping company is driving me mad! Please help!

When we moved, we found that there was a lot of room for negotiation once we had obtained a few quotes. In our case it was a sole container to Ontario.

We had the usual suspects come round but...

Re: ESTA for US travel?

If you can spare a few dollars, get the ESTA anyway. It is quicker to get the I94W at the border if you have an ESTA.
Basically when you get to the desk in secondary you tell them you have an ESTA...

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED- eTa Processing time for Temporary Resident

A plus-point for WestJet there!
Hopefully the eTA will come soon. Failing that I guess you take a luxury liner or google for space on a cargo ship :-)

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED- eTa Processing time for Temporary Resident

One idea, given the urgency...

Have you already got an ESTA for the US perhaps? (I don't know what the rules on cautions are for that - perhaps you can get one quicker than an ETA)

If you've...

Re: Exchange licence, register car .. in what order?

In my opinion, get your license first and then the car - which is how I did it.

You get your license at an office where they will give you a paper version whilst the card is on order. The paper...

Re: How's Your Hydro?

The folks where we are in ON certainly call the electricity "Hydro". The wires are held up by "Hydro Towers" since pylons are basically traffic cones - which wouldn't be high enough but would...

Re: Schooling

Courtesy IRCC...

Generally, minor children need to apply for a study permit from outside of Canada, if they want to go to study in Canada. However, a minor child can go to school without a study...

Re: UK Wii

We brought our Wii from the UK. We just got a US Wii power block from Amazon or eBay I guess. Works nicely. The UK Wii is happy to use a US block as the power output to the Wii is the same.
I...

Re: LMIA delayed....Help!

The good news, if experience here is anything to go by, is that when they do finally call your employer to check things (normal practice), they are quite friendly and understanding.
Evidentially...

Re: LMIA delayed....Help!

We had someone for whom 10 days would apply, but ESDC just asked a question and in the letter they say that due to the necessary correspondence the 10 days will no longer apply.
The LMIA came...

Re: Child Tax Benefit

Did you complete one of these?

If so, then they presumably don't like what you put on it, and if not, you probably should do so (it...

Well, the minister hopes to get it in law by July this year, but the senate doesn't have to play ball of course.
After that, expect them to take a bit of time to plan and bring new conditions into...

Landing card - under 16

Hi,

Does anyone know whether an under 16 flying alone into Canada needs to complete a landing card?
We looked at the card online to help practice completion but notice that the signature box...

Re: Customs

In 2014, my shipper initially claimed that I would have to attend. I sent them a stamped goods-to-follow list (a long detailed list!), and in fact I didn't have to attend.
