I opened my Malaysian HSBC bank account from the UK, from a local branch where I had a local HSBC account.

They were much more flexible on taking any address as a temporary one as I wasn't sure...

I've noticed that if you purchase for the Kindle from Amazon online (not through the Kindle itself), you can then send it to your device. It'll download and sync when you use the device next.
