I have just worked out a budget of 30.5 k to live in Spain and the UK this pays for both houses overheads and all living expenses so yes you should live fine on 20k living and 10k rent

UK prices for 2 people, mine are power £25, food £30, all insurance £20, car fuel + tax £40, council tax £30, water £5, going out £50, dog £10, tv/phone £20.
